Abstract

Electrical Engineering High-Power Microwave Sources and Technologies A volume in the IEEE Press Series on RF and Microwave Technology Roger D. Pollard and Richard Booton, Series Editors Written by a prolific group of leading researchers, High-Power Microwave Sources and Technologies focuses primarily on the high-power microwave (HPM) technology most appropriate for military applications. It highlights the advances achieved from 1995 to 2000 as the result of a US Department of Defense (DoD) funded, $15 million Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program. The grant created a synergy between researchers in the DoD laboratories and the academic community, and established links with the microwave vacuum electronics industry, which has led to unprecedented collaborations that transcend laboratory and disciplinary boundaries. This essential reference provides the history, state-of-the-art, and possible future of HPM source research and technologies. The first alternative to the multiplicity of detailed applications-based HPM books and journal articles, this book familiarizes the reader with recent advances in this rapidly changing field. It presents a compendium of valuable information on HPM sources, representing significant enabling technologies, including beam and rf control, cathodes, windows, and computational techniques. The era of utilizing computational techniques to electronically design an HPM source prior to actually building the hardware has arrived. Gain insight into proven techniques and solutions that will enhance your source design. High-Power Microwave Sources and Technologies is an invaluable resource to researchers active in the field, faculty, graduate and post-graduate students. Special Note: All royalties realized from the sale of this book will fund the future research and publications activities of graduate students in the HPM field.

Abstract

"FOUNDATIONS FOR MICROWAVE ENGINEERING, Second Edition, covers the major topics of microwave engineering. Its presentation defines the accepted standard for both advanced undergraduate and graduate level courses on microwave engineering. An essential reference book for the practicing microwave engineer, it features:. Planar transmission lines, as well as an appendix that describes in detail conformal mapping methods for their analysis and attenuation characteristics. Small aperture coupling and its application in practical components such as directional couplers and cavity coupling. Printed circuit components with an emphasis on techniques such as even and odd mode analysis and the use of symmetry properties. Microwave linear amplifier and oscillator design using solid-state circuits such as varactor devices and transistors FOUNDATIONS FOR MICROWAVE ENGINEERING, Second Edition, has extensive coverage of transmission lines, waveguides, microwave circuit theory, impedance matching and cavity resonators. It devotes an entire chapter to fundamental microwave tubes, in addition to chapters on periodic structures, microwave filters, small signal solid-state microwave amplifier and oscillator design, and negative resistance devices and circuits. Completely updated in 1992, it is being reissued by the IEEE Press in response to requests from our many members, who found it an invaluable textbook and an enduring reference for practicing microwave engineers. About the Author Robert E. Collin is the author or coauthor of more than 150 technical papers and five books on electromagnetic theory and applications. His classic text, Field Theory of Guided Waves, is also a volume in the series. Professor Collin has had a long and distinguished academic career at Case Western Reserve University. In addition to his professional duties, he has served as chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering and as interim dean of engineering. Professor Collin is a life fellow of the IEEE and a member of the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society and the Antennas and Propagation Society (APS). He is a member of U.S. Commission B of URSI and a member of the Geophysical Society. Other honors include the Diekman Award from Case Western Reserve University for distinguished graduate teaching , the IEEE APS Distinguished Career Award (1992), the IEEE Schelkunoff Prize Paper Award (1992), the IEEE Electromagnetics Award (1998), and an IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000. In 1990 Professor Collin was elected to the National Academy of Engineering." Sponsored by: IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society An Instructor's Manual presenting detailed solutions to all the problems in the book is available upon request from the Wiley Makerting Department.

Abstract

Today, engineering problems are very complex, requiring powerful computer simulations to power them. For engineers, observable-based parameterization as well as numerically computable forms - with rapid convergent properties if in a series - are essential. Complex Electromagnetic Problems and Numerical Simulation Approaches, along with its companion FTP site, will show you how to take on complex electromagnetic problems and solve them in an accurate and efficient manner. Organized into two distinct parts, this comprehensive resource first introduces you to the concepts, approaches, and numerical simulation techniques that will be used throughout the book and then, in Part II, offers step-by-step guidance as to their practical, real-world applications. Self-contained chapters will enable you to find specific solutions to numerous problems. Filled with in-depth insight and expert advice, Complex Electromagnetic Problems and Numerical Simulation Approaches: . Describes ground wave propagation. Examines antenna systems. Deals with radar cross section (RCS) modeling. Explores microstrip network design with FDTD and TLM techniques. Discusses electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and bio-electromagnetics (BEM) modeling. Presents radar simulation Whether you're a professional electromagnetic engineer requiring a consolidated overview of the subject or an academic/student who wishes to use powerful simulators as a learning tool, Complex Electromagnetic Problems and Numerical Simulation Approaches - with its focus on model development, model justification, and range of validity - is the right book for you.
