Die Einrichtung bilingualer Bildungsgänge ist zu einer vorrangigen Aufgabe bundesdeutscher Bildungspolitik geworden. Mehr als 500 Schulen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland dokumentieren dies mit neuen oder neu strukturierten Curricula und Modellen. Sowohl Fremdsprachenunterricht als auch Sachfachunterricht profitieren von dieser Entwicklung. Die inzwischen erfolgte Vorverlagerung der Fremdsprachen in den Primarstufenbereich findet ebenfalls ihren Niederschlag in der bilingualen Bildungslandschaft. So ist es keine Überraschung, dass dieser Band, der als Wegbereiter des bilingualen Unterrichts im deutschsprachigen Raum gilt, auf eine breite Nachfrage gestoßen und zum Standardwerk in einem sich rasch ausbreitenden Lehr- und Forschungsbereich geworden ist. Reform of education, training and human resource development is an integral part of the transition to a democratic society and market economy. Romania has made progress in all these areas since reform began in 1990. Still, the real impetus for change is more recent and can be dated to the publication of The Reform of Education Now by the Ministry of National Education in 1997. The Ministry’s challenge has been to promote and support changes that meet the needs of the new economy and society as well as the interests of all young people and adults, in the face of a shortage of financial and human resources. The book first gives a brief history of education in Romania and describes the development of education in the country since the political changes. It then presents an analysis of the entire education system and identifies key directions for the reinforcement of the reforms in light of the challenges faced by officials, communities, enterprises, educators, parents and students under very dynamic and uncertain conditions. It concludes with a set of key recommendations on education goals and the transition; learning effectiveness, outcomes and the curriculum; management and governance for flexibility, responsiveness and change; and resources and financing. This review will be very useful to both Romanian professionals and their international counterparts.

El Colegio de México cumple sesenta años de su fundación. Seis décadas de fructífera labor en el campo de la investigación humanística, desde que -a finales de los años treinta, hay que recordar los años pioneros de La Casa de España- Alfonso Reyes y Daniel Cosío Villegas pensaron en la institución cuyo aniversario hoy se celebra. Cuando se cumplió el medio siglo de existencia se publicaron tres libros en la colección Jornadas, con la historia de ese periodo. Hoy, una década después, y agotadas ya aquellas ediciones, se ha querido hacer una nueva, con algunas correcciones que sus autores han considerado pertinentes, y con un epílogo de Javier Garciadiego, en un solo volumen, más manejable, que sirva para conmemorar estos sesenta años. En él se rinde homenaje a todos los que han colaborado a que El Colegio de México llegue al nuevo milenio con un futuro promisorio y un pasado ejemplar. En este caso mirar atrás no nos convierte en estatuas de sal, sino que hace sentir un justificado orgullo por lo hecho y un compromiso muy grande con lo que está por hacerse.
