Abstract

The Journal of Historical Research in Music Education (JHRME) is published twice annually. Its intended audience is research scholars in music education, musicology and the history of education. JHRME is unique because it is the only music education publication whose topics focus solely on the diverse international history of music education including biographical, methodological, sociological, historiographical and qualitative studies of music teaching and learning. JHRME was founded in 1980 at the University of Kansas as the Bulletin of Historical Research in Music Education, a peer-reviewed journal for historical researchers. In 1999, publication was moved to Arizona State University and the name was changed to its current title reflecting its growth in content and scholarship. The editorial committee was augmented to include an international group of scholars from Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Germany, and Japan. The JHRME changed its publication site to Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York in 2003.
