This important book bridged the gap between the English-speaking readers and the main works of the Gestalt psychologists until then available only in German. Over 400 pages in length, the book is a collection of abstracts or summaries of thirty-four articles and one book that were published in German between 1915 and 1929 by the leading exponents of Gestalt psychology and their students. Included are papers or presentations by Benary, Duncker, Frey, Fuchs, Gelb, Goldstein, Gottschaldt, Hertz, Hornbostel, Koffka, KÖhler, Hartmann, Lindermann, Schulte, Ternus, Wertheimer, Wulf, and Zeigarnik. In his introduction to the book, Koffka wrote: "A book like this needs no recommendation. Those who are interested in the earlier work of the gestalt school of psychologists will turn to it without special invitation." Of interest to all concerned with the works of the German pioneers, it is of special importance to practitioners of Gestalt therapy as it is the most cited reference in Perls, Hefferline and Goodman's "Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and Growth in the Human Personality".
