Kentucky occupied an unusual position with regard to slavery during the Civil War as well as after. Since the state never seceded, the emancipation proclamation did not free the majority of Kentucky's slaves; in fact, Kentucky and Delaware were the only two states where legal slavery still existed when the thirteenth amendment was adopted by Congress. Despite its unique position, no historian before has attempted to tell the experience of blacks in the Commonwealth during the Civil War and Reconstruction.Victor B. A la fin de l'année 1992, une rue historique du centre de Bruxelles sera partiellement reconstruite : une dizaine de "maisons de ville" s'aligneront à la périphérie d'un îlot où se mélangeront logements, commerces, bureaux et un grand jardin central. L'opération est inédite : elle propose non seulement une manière de concevoir l'habitat au centre de la ville, mais surtout, elle associe sept jeunes architectes européens dans un projet collectif. Ces jeunes architectes ont été sélectionnés au terme d'un concours organisé par la Fondation pour l'Architecture à Bruxelles et le groupe AG, un important investisseur immobilier de la capitale belge. Leurs projets et ceux de quatorze concurrents sélectionnés à l'issue de la première phase du concours, sont présentés dans cette ouvrage.
