In the 1920s, the making of clothes was one of the most important French industries and haute couture dress designers such as Paul Poiret, Charles Frederick Worth, Jeanne Lanvin, Joseph Paquin and Jean Patou were international celebrities. The magazine 'Art, Gout, Beauté' (AGB) promoted the industry every month from 1920 to 1933. Hand colored by the 'pochoir' process, the illustrations were inspired by the success of Lucien Vogel's well known high-society fashion journal, Gazette du Bon Ton. In extended captions and text, the book covers feminine fashion of the 20s and 30s in all its aspects : the work of the designers, the changes of style and the fashion plate and textile background. It sets them against the social scene : a world of sports, fast cars, night clubs and the 1925 Paris international exhibition of arts and decoration.
