The journal deals with the Balkan area using an interdisciplinary approach. The BP's leading discipline is history; however, the monographs also contain reference to culture, art history, linguistics, religion, sociology or politics. Therefore, the journal presents intercultural and interdisciplinary research, encompassing various methodologies and research perspectives. It provides a forum for the presentation of research results, exchange of thoughts, and discussions on the theory and practice that compose Balkan studies today.
