This collection of Roman letter forms includes 150 complete alphabets which have all been enlarged beyond the largest manufactured size. The intention has been to demonstrate the diversity of available alphabets, some of which are comparatively unknown; there are historical and modern letter forms and particular emphasis has been placed on display and decorative lettering. In addition to a selection of the most up-to-date type faces, a number of original alphabets are reproduced, and in many cases the lower case is also shown. Numerous illustrations face their relevant alphabets to show the manifold and effective uses of lettering in contemporary design. 

No other book so far published provides such a comprehensive selection of complete alphabets in large sizes and, with its simultaneous publication throughout the world, it will prove invaluable to all designers and students.

To facilitate reproduction by designers the book has been printed by lithography. The introduction is given in English, French, German, Italian an Spanish; an index provides details of the origin of each alphabet.

Frederick Lambert is lecturer in Typographic Design at the London College of Printing, and he has for many years practised as a free-lance designer. He is consultant typographer to Letraset Ltd.
