This volume is concerned with a geometric approach to qualitative problems in intrinsic differential geometry, with an emphasis on spaces in which the geodesics have only local uniqueness properties. Finsler spaces are the principal subject, both in terms of a type of space and of an approach. Some familiarity with non-Euclidean geometry and classical differential geometry is necessary to grasp the significance of the problems.
