The philosophical and philological study of Aristotle fragments and lost works has fallen somewhat into the background since the 1960’s. This is regrettable considering the different and innovative directions the study of Aristotle has taken in the last decades. This collection of new peer-reviewed essays applies the latest developments and trends of analysis, criticism, and methodology to the study of Aristotle’s fragments. The individual essays use the fragments as tools of interpretation, shed new light on different areas of Aristotle philosophy, and lay bridges between Aristotle’s lost and extant works. The first part shows how Aristotle frames parts of his own understanding of Philosophy in his published, 'popular' work. The second part deals with issues of philosophical interpretation in Aristotle’s extant works which can be illuminated by fragments of his lost works. The philosophical issues treated in this section range from Theology to Natural Science, Psychology, Politics, and Poetics. As a whole, the book articulates a new approach to Aristotle’s lost works, by providing a reassessment and new methodological explorations of the fragments.

Die auf W. Morel (1927) zurückgehende, von K. Büchner (1982) und J. Blänsdorf (1995) stark erweiterte textkritische Ausgabe der lateinischen Dichterfragmente wurde erneut durchgesehen und bibliographisch ergänzt. Diese 4. Auflage umfasst (bei fast gleicher Seitenzahl dank sparsamerer Formatierung) etwa 10% mehr Material als die 3. Auflage, nunmehr 1036 Fragmente von 148 bekannten und weiteren unbekannten Autoren. Hinzugefügt wurden vor allem die nicht-epischen Fragmente des Ennius und zahlreiche neue Konjekturen. Die neukonstituierten textkritischen Apparate wurden um die Angabe der Versgattungen erweitert. Zusätzlich zu den Gesamtindizes werden größere Fragmentkomplexe durch Konkordanzen erschlossen. This 4th edition of the "Fragmenta Poetarum Latinarum" contains 1036 fragments from 148 known and numerous unknown poets from the beginnings of Latin literature to the end of antiquity. Nearly the same number of pages as in the 3rd edition contain about 10% more dates. Besides an extended bibliography, several new fragments and a series of new conjectures, the non-epic fragments of Ennius and the indications of metre have been added, the critical apparatuses have been reconstituted, several indices link the numbers of fragments to those of other editions.

This is the first full-scale commentary on the extant fragments of genealogical and antiquarian epic of the archaic period since G. Marckscheffel?s Latin commentary in 1840. The discovery of seven manuscript fragments of the Old French Suite Vulgate du Merlin in a set of early printed books in the Bristol Central Library hit global headlines in 2019. This book contains a comprehensive study of these fascinating Arthurian fragments. Beginning with an extensive contextual history, the authors reveal details of the fragments' origin, their importation to England, and their subsequent journey to a waste pile in a bookbinder's workshop, where they would be incorporated into the bindings of a four-volume edition of the works of Jean Gerson in the early sixteenth century. A full enquiry into the provenance of these host volumes sets out the possible routes from the bookbinder's workshop to their final home in Bristol Central Library. Using multi-spectral imaging to read the damaged sections of text, the authors also provide a full edition and translation of the narrative contained in the fragments.
