The complex analysis, also known as theory of analytic functions or complex variable function theory, is the part of mathematical analysis that investigates the functions of complex numbers, their analyticity, holomorphicity, and integration of these functions on complex domains that can be complex manifolds or submanifolds. Also the extensions of these domains to the complex projective spaces and complex topological groups are study themes. The analytic continuing of complex domains where complex series representations are used and the exploring of singularities whose integration invariants obtain values as zeros of certain polynomials of the complex rings of certain vector bundles are important in the exploring of new function classes in the meromorphic context and also arithmetic context. Also important are established correspondences with complex vector spaces, or even in their real parts, using several techniques of complex geometrical analysis, Nevanlinna methods, and other techniques as the modular forms. All this is just some examples of great abundance of the problems in mathematics research that require the complex analysis application. This book covers some interesting and original research of certain topics of complex analysis. Also included are some applications for inverse and ill posed problems developed in engineering and applied research.

Modern materials and structures are significantly different from conventional ones. Their sizes can be orders of magnitude smaller, and their compositions are so sophisticated that traditional characteristic methods are inapplicable. Non-conventional methods are essential to tackle these issues, which must often be approached in an interdisciplinary fashion. This Special Issue is a collection of articles that shed light on these problems.

Sacred texts, myths and traditions worldwide attribute a healing power to words. Abracadabra, the magic word par excellence, is mentioned in the physician's book of Emperor Caracalla as a healing tool, and Gorgias in the 5th century BC compare drugs to words. What is the vision of science? What effect do words have on the brain? This volume addresses in a simple way the theme of the healing power of words both from the point of view of the history of religions, mythology and ethology and from a neuroscientific point of view. Speech produces changes in the activity of the brain that can be the basis of psychotherapy and contribute to the psychophysical wellness of the person in health and disease.

This book entitled Development and Application of Nonlinear Dissipative Device in Structural Vibration Control contains contributions that focus on the development and application of innovative nonlinear dissipative systems that mitigate the potentially catastrophic effects of extreme loading by incorporating new materials or effective mechanical control technologies. Moreover, new nonlinear analytical methods for distinctive vibrating structures under different excitations are also highlighted in this book. It is notable that nonlinear dampers prove superior in energy dissipation compared to linear dampers, such as the wide frequency band of vibration attenuation and high robustness. In light of this, nonlinear dampers have been utilized in many different cases. For example, pounding-tuned mass dampers are employed to alleviate the excessive vibration of power transmission towers, and self-powered magnetorheological dampers are used to suppress the undesirable vibration of long stay cables. The content of this book covers a wide variety of topics that can be mainly divided into three categories, namely, new nonlinear dissipative devices, new simulation tools for vibrating structures undergoing nonlinear stage, and new design/optimum methods for dissipative devices and isolation systems. The contributions presented in this book can provide valuable and constructive reference material for the further study of nonlinear dampers and structures.

Enrico Fermi, Nobel Prize for Physics in 1938, taught at the Royal University of Florence. Fermi's stay in Florence was short and only lasted two academic years (1924/25 and 1925/26); during those years, he taught "Mathematical Physics" and "Rational Mechanics” courses. This volume contributes to the reconstruction of this quite unknown period of Fermi's life, marked however by the publication of the Fermi statistics, a scientific breakthrough which would bring the Italian scientist to international celebrity thanks to its application in several fields of physics. This work is at the base, among other things, of semiconductor physics and therefore of modern electronics. The text also features Enrico Fermi’s "Lessons of Rational Mechanics” to Science students and to students from the two-year preparatory course for Engineering studies during the aforementioned time span. The topics Enrico Fermi addressed in his lectures include kinematics and point dynamics, kinematics and statics of rigid systems and system statics in general. Lastly, the lessons contain 'Lagrangia’’s equations and some elements of hydromechanics.

The current text deals with several, very important topics of modern, Analytical Chemistry, such as analytical method validation in biotechnology today, principal component analysis, kinetic methods of analysis using potentiometric and spectrophotometric detectors, the current status of Analytical Chemistry and where it may move in the future, peptide and amino acid separations and identification, and several other, related topics in this growing and increasingly important area of Chemistry, in general. Analytical Chemistry has come to assume an incredibly important role in most, if not all, areas of scientific research today, from the current, Mars lander/rover, to underwater explorations to forensic science to DNA characterization for dedicated medicine treatments, to climate change, and others, just as important areas of modern, scientific research and development. Its usage in modern -omics R&D areas has grown so that its methods and instrumentation have become paramount in all such areas, including metabolomics, proteomics, peptidomics, combinatorial chemistry, and so forth. There will be continued growth and importance in almost all areas of modern scientific research and development, as well as in numerous areas of engineering (chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, nuclear engineering, pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical engineering, nanotechnology, and others).
