New Advances in Semiconductors brings together contributions from important researchers around the world on semiconductor materials and their applications. It includes seven chapters in two sections: "Calculations and Simulations in Semiconductors" and "Semiconductor Materials." The world will emerge different after the social and economic reorganizations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and will be even more dependent on semiconductors than ever before. New Advances in Semiconductors is a book that brings together the contributions of important researchers around the world and is able to give an idea about the different characteristics of semiconductor materials and their applications. There is a section dedicated to theory, calculations and logic and another dedicated to the development and characterization of semiconductor materials of great future interest. I really hope that this book will help to spread knowledge about this research field to other researchers and students working in this area or even to those interested in starting their more advanced studies.

The field of low-dimensional structures has been experiencing rapid development in both theoretical and experimental research. Phonons in Low Dimensional Structures is a collection of chapters related to the properties of solid-state structures dependent on lattice vibrations. The book is divided into two parts. In the first part, research topics such as interface phonons and polaron states, carrier-phonon non-equilibrium dynamics, directional projection of elastic waves in parallel array of N elastically coupled waveguides, collective dynamics for longitudinal and transverse phonon modes, and elastic properties for bulk metallic glasses are related to semiconductor devices and metallic glasses devices. The second part of the book contains, among others, topics related to superconductor, phononic crystal carbon nanotube devices such as phonon dispersion calculations using density functional theory for a range of superconducting materials, phononic crystal-based MEMS resonators, absorption of acoustic phonons in the hyper-sound regime in fluorine-modified carbon nanotubes and single-walled nanotubes, phonon transport in carbon nanotubes, quantization of phonon thermal conductance, and phonon Anderson localization.

Enrico Fermi, Nobel Laureate in Physics in 1938, taught at the University of Florence just for two academic years (1924-25 and 1925-26). His research activity in these two years saw the publication of the statistics bearing his name (the two original 1926 papers by E. Fermi are reproduced in full in this book), which is at the basis of semiconductors, and hence of modern electronics. This volume is printed for the placement, at the School of Engineering in Florence, of an IEEE Milestone, within the 'IEEE Global History Network program', commemorating the event. The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) is the largest professional association in the world devoted to advancing technological innovation in electrical, electronic engineering, and related fields.

Semiconducting materials are widely used in several applications such as photonics, photovoltaics, electronics, and thermoelectrics, because of their optical and electro-optical features. The fundamental and technological importance of these materials is due to the unique physical and chemical properties. Over the years, numerous methods have been developed for the synthesis of high-efficient semiconductors. Moreover, a variety of approach and characterization methods have been used to study the numerous and fascinating properties of the semiconducting materials. This book collects new developments about semiconductors, from the fundamental issues to their synthesis and applications. Special attention has been devoted to electrochemical growth and characterization.
