Tien jaar zijn scholen aan de slag met het uitwerken en implementeren van een gelijke onderwijskansenbeleid. Scholen hebben een weg gezocht en gevonden om dit beleid te integreren in hun schoolbeleid. We staan in dit rapport stil bij de vraag of die weg getuigt van trouw aan wat het beleid als bedoeling vooropstelde en of scholen de gekregen vrijheid hebben aangegrepen om het beleid optimaal te laten renderen in hun lokale context. De auteurs gaan op basis van de resultaten van een internationaal onderzoek na hoe het hoger secundair onderwijs - en meer specifiek de tweede graad en de derde graad secundair onderwijs - er in Vlaanderen uitziet, onder meer in vergelijking met andere EU-landen. Ze openen als het ware de 'black box' van het 'hoger' secundair onderwijs, en belichten de processen die zich daar afspelen. Concreet worden er indicatoren besproken die betrekking hebben op actuele thema's die de onderwijsbetrokkenen rechtstreeks aanbelangen: beschikbaarheid, gebruik, ontwikkeling van en samenwerking op het vlak van informatie- en communicatietechnologie (ICT); relevante karakteristieken van leerkrachten die lesgeven in dat onderwijsniveau; het gevoerde schoolbeleid ten aanzien van leerlingen in de laatste jaren van het secundair onderwijs; en ten slotte de ondersteuning die scholen ontvangen, zowel op financieel vlak als in de vorm van feedback. Throughout this book, an analysis is made of how History teaching is organized in what the International Standard Classification of Education standards call Secondary Education (ISCED 2 and 3), in four different European countries, in order to compare the importance given to History, the type of curriculum chosen and its place in the Secondary Education. In addition to Portugal, the other three countries (Spain, France and England) were chosen because of the historical relation each one has with Portugal. Considered fundamental in the integral formation of any young person and important for the development of critical thinking, it is possible to withdraw from the analysis carried out the idea that despite the importance that is notoriously given to this subject, there have been many debates regarding what to teach and also its general purpose in Education.

Cet ouvrage s'intéresse à un aspect encore peu connu de l'histoire de l'éducation en France au XIXe siècle. En s'inscrivant dans le récent « tournant transnational » de la recherche historique, il examine le vaste système d’échanges, de circulations et d’emprunts par-delà les frontières qui accompagnent la mise en place du système scolaire moderne entre 1870 et 1914. Son ambition est de montrer comment l’école républicaine, souvent pensée comme un élément de l’identité nationale et comme un instrument de nationalisation de la société française, s’est largement construite en référence à des exemples et modèles étrangers.
