This scholarly book is the final result of a team-research project, done by ten Practical Theologians from three denominations in the Reformed tradition in South Africa. The authors posed the following research problem and-question: What would be the relationship (if any) between preaching (and the liturgy of which it is a part) and the development of missional congregations? And secondly, what kind of preaching and preacher would best serve (even facilitate) such a process of missional congregational development in preaching and worship?

The first volume of the Unimi Connect - Universe Third Mission series features 14 projects covering social inclusion, sustainability and rights. The first section describes activities to support the most fragile: such as the attempt to restore an identity to the victims of the Mediterranean Sea; the outpatient clinic built for the children from the slums of Nairobi; and the project to help the inmates who want to graduate from prison.In the second section, projects dedicated to sustainability find space: such as the University of the Mountain in Edolo or the Milan University's own strategies to reduce the environmental impact of its activities.In the third volume, we find projects focused on human rights: those of people with disabilities, the right to a safe and transparent society, and legal matters concerning international families. A few decades ago, management thinking started to embrace the idea of purpose. The first edition of this book marked an important step in this trajectory; it drew attention to the need for managers to relate the concepts of purpose and missions to strategy, culture and leadership. In the years since, purpose and missions have become business imperatives not only in terms of remaining competitive but as core in the attempts to have a sustainable impact on the world. The second edition of Management by Missions is an Open Access book based on substantially more research carried out over fifteen years, involving more than 200 organizations around the world. All of this research supports that the practical models and ideas offered in the book have been tried and tested and actually work in practice. With case studies, anecdote and new research findings, the authors present the main tools of the MBM method (shared missions, missions scorecards, interdependency matrix, missions-based objectives and integral assessment) and the type of leadership needed to implement it. The ideas presented in this book mark a path towards a new management methodology for the XXI century and a new way of understanding the work that managers do.

Comment les laïcs se sont-ils impliqués dans la chose religieuse, en y investissant de l’argent, du temps, du capital symbolique et même émotionnel ? L’Église des laïcs questionne l’initiative des fidèles auprès des institutions religieuses, entre le xvie et le xxe siècle, notamment dans la vieille Europe et les espaces américains dominés par les Ibériques. L’ouvrage observe ces modalités d’investissement dans le sacré au sein du catholicisme, tout en dressant des passerelles avec l’islam, les christianismes orientaux, la religion orthodoxe. Quelles stratégies, quelles formes de participation, quelles sensibilités les acteurs sociaux ont-ils mobilisé pour agir sur les institutions de l’Ecclesia et en leur sein ? Quels retours sur investissement en espéraient-ils ? Peut-on mesurer les bénéfices de leurs engagements ? Tenter de répondre à ces questions, c’est réfléchir à ce qui se joue dans l’économie de la grâce et du don que pratiquent les laïcs, en confrontant leurs attentes et leurs dividendes. Este libro estudia la participación de los laicos en la creación, gestión y perpetuación de las instituciones y actividades eclesiásticas en Europa y América desde el siglo xvi hasta el xx. Examina la naturaleza y el grado de control que ejercen los laicos sobre estas instituciones en cuanto a sus motivaciones y los beneficios que esperan obtener de su participación en la vida religiosa. Contribuye a la comprensión de lo que sucede en el siglo xxi cuando el incendio de una catedral como Notre-Dame genera una extraordinaria movilización financiera y emocional.
