Transformer un organisme qui dispense des cours traditionnels en un organisme qui offre des cours à distance et en ligne n’est pas une entreprise de tout repos. Il faut comprendre que l’on travaille avec des spécialistes de la matière qui ont, dans la plupart des cas, toujours présenté leur enseignement en mode présentiel, en salle de classe. Peu d’entre eux ont planifié leurs cours de façon systématique. Cependant, cette planification s’avère une nécessité absolue lorsque l’on envisage d’offrir son enseignement à distance. Selon le professeur Robert Brien, père du design pédagogique dans la Francophonie, « le modèle de développement de cours que propose le professeur Power, dans son ouvrage, est souple et constitue un apport important au développement des cours d’un programme de formation ». Ce livre, écrit dans le style abordable du journal de bord, amène les lecteurs à l’intérieur du processus "idien du design de cours universitaires, au cœur même de la création des connaissances et de leur organisation en unités pédagogiques. À travers dix études de cas, l’auteur nous présente les complexités inhérentes à cette opération, les obstacles rencontrés par les acteurs, l’émergence graduelle d’un nouveau modèle de design, cela dans l’environnement d’un monde universitaire en pleine mutation qui est peu exploré dans la littérature.

This book reveals the history of discussions regarding university education in Belgium, from the abolishment of the old university of Leuven in 1797 to the promulgation of the laws on higher education in 1890 and 1891. Different issues pass the revue, such as the number and location of the universities, the entrance conditions, the educational programme and methods, the organisation of the examination system, the transformation of the university - from a vocational school to a research institution -, the training of future professors and the admission of women to the university. The general debates are systematically confronted with practical developments within the faculties of arts and medicine. A double compromise characterised both the debates and the practical realisations: between what was generally considered the French model and the German university system, and between the internal and external freedom of the universities.

Universities and public research institutes play a key role in enabling the application of scientific breakthroughs and innovations in the marketplace. Many countries - developed and developing alike - have implemented national strategies to support the application or commercialization of knowledge produced by public research organizations. Universities and public research institutes have introduced practices to support these activities, for instance by including knowledge transfer to promote innovation as a core part of their mission. As a result, a vital question for policymakers is how to improve the efficiency of these knowledge transfer practices to help maximize innovation-driven growth and/or to seek practical solutions to critical societal challenges. This book aims to develop a conceptual framework to evaluate knowledge transfer practices and outcomes; to improve knowledge transfer metrics, surveys and evaluation frameworks; and to generate findings on what works and what does not, and to propose related policy lessons.
