D-branes represent a key theoretical tool in the understanding of strongly coupled superstring theory and M-theory. They have led to many striking discoveries, including the precise microphysics underlying the thermodynamic behaviour of certain black holes, and remarkable holographic dualities between large-N gauge theories and gravity. This book provides a self-contained introduction to the technology of D-branes, presenting the recent developments and ideas in a pedagogical manner. It is suitable for use as a textbook in graduate courses on modern string theory and theoretical particle physics, and will also be an indispensable reference for seasoned practitioners. The introductory material is developed by first starting with the main features of string theory needed to get rapidly to grips with D-branes, uncovering further aspects while actually working with D-branes. Many advanced applications are covered, with discussions of open problems which could form the basis for other avenues of research.

This paper presents Côte d'Ivoire’s request for an Extended Arrangement Under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and a 40-Month Arrangement Under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF). IMF Board approves 40-month arrangements under the EFF and ECF for Côte d’Ivoire to help support the country’s transformation toward upper-middle income status through the implementation of the authorities’ national development plan while preserving macroeconomic stability. The key reform agenda under the arrangements is domestic revenue mobilization, which is central in preserving fiscal and debt sustainability and along with increased spending efficiency should generate fiscal space to help finance investment needs and critical spending in health and education to allow for deeper economic transformation. Structural reforms should further deliver improvements in business climate, private sector investments and financial inclusion to foster the necessary conditions for inclusive growth, through strengthening governance and human capital investments, especially amongst youth and women.

The D’Avalos name evokes images of cruel battles and tragic love stories, reminds figures of great warlords and sophisticated ladies, nourishes the legend of fabulous riches and luxurious residences. The work of scholars who explored the thick forest of Innico and Alfonso D’Avalos descendants do not allow to completely outline the history of this family. The family’s private archive, inviolable guardian of their memories, where records related to the private sphere and official acts, such as pontifical papers and relations with the sovereigns, are kept is still inaccessible. The records of the notary Scotto di Santolo can be very useful, because they allowed the reconstruction of the wide archival heritage coming from the past, recorded along with other property of the family after the death, in 1862, of last heir of the primary branch, the Prince Alfonso D’Avalos. The transcription of the D’Avalos archive before the Italian unification that we present can avoid its definitive "burial".

This book addresses the topic of entrepreneurial succession in the family business. This is a fundamental passage, frequently decisive in a type of enterprise that is extremely common in the Italian and European economic context. Consequently, it is evident that appropriate planning of this phase and a knowledge of the most pertinent strategic and operational alternatives are of crucial importance. After an initial overview of the specific features of the family business, the book addresses the typical problems related to the opening up of the corporate structure and the succession process from an entrepreneurial point of view. This is followed by an analysis of various tools for planning the succession and the principal operations deemed functional to the entrepreneurial succession process. In questo volume si affronta il tema della successione imprenditoriale nell'impresa familiare. Si tratta di un passaggio fondamentale, spesso decisivo per la sopravvivenza di questo particolare tipo di imprese, peraltro molto diffuso nel contesto economico italiano ed europeo. Emerge dunque con forza l'importanza di un'adeguata pianificazione e conoscenza delle alternative strategiche ed operative ideali a realizzarla.
