Drawing together literature from a variety of fields, Food Texture and Viscosity, 2E, includes a brief history of this area and its basic principles. It reviews how texture and viscosity are measured, including the physical interactions between the human body and food, objective methods of texture measurements, the latest advances in texture-measuring instruments, various types of liquid flow, and more. This revised edition contains approximately 30% new material, including two new chapters on physics and texture and the correlation between physical measurements and sensory assessments. It now.

Power quality is a pressing concern in electric power systems. One of the main requirements of power quality management is the guarantee of a sinusoidal voltage waveform with adequate amplitude at each node of the network. The fulfilment of such a control objective is facilitated by adaptive systems which can account for unpredictable fluctuations in operating conditions. Adaptive Voltage Control in Power Systems, a self-contained blend of theory and novel application, is an in-depth treatment of such adaptive control schemes. The reader moves from power-system-modelling problems through illustrations of the main adaptive control systems (self-tuning, model-reference and nonlinearities compensation) to a detailed description of design methods: Kalman filtering, parameter-identification algorithms and discrete-time controller design are all represented. Case studies address applications issues in the implementation of adaptive voltage control. Practicing engineers and researchers in power systems and control engineering will find this monograph, written by representatives of each field, to be a valuable synthesis of both while its accessible style will also appeal to graduate students. Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.

Voltage Regulators for Next Generation Microprocessors by: Toni López Reinhold Elferich Eduard Alarcón This book deals with energy delivery challenges of the power processing unit of modern computer microprocessors. It describes in detail the consequences of current trends in miniaturization and clock frequency increase, upon the power delivery unit, referred to as voltage regulator. This is an invaluable reference for anybody needing to understand the key performance limitations and opportunities for improvement, from both a circuit and systems perspective, of state-of-the-art power solutions for next generation CPUs. •Provides a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art in energy delivery for the power processing unit of modern microprocessors; •Describes in detail key technological improvements required to fulfill the new load specifications; •Explains from both a circuit and systems perspective the key performance limitations and opportunities for improvement of state-of-the-art power solutions.

Based on the author’s twenty years of experience, this book shows the practicality of modern, conceptually new, wide area voltage control in transmission and distribution smart grids, in detail. Evidence is given of the great advantages of this approach, as well as what can be gained by new control functionalities which modern technologies now available can provide. The distinction between solutions of wide area voltage regulation (V-WAR) and wide area voltage protection (V-WAP) are presented, demonstrating the proper synergy between them when they operate on the same power system as well as the simplicity and effectiveness of the protection solution in this case. The author provides an overview and detailed descriptions of voltage controls, distinguishing between generalities of underdeveloped, on-field operating applications and modern and available automatic control solutions, which are as yet not sufficiently known or perceived for what they are: practical, high-performance and reliable solutions. At the end of this thorough and complex preliminary analysis the reader sees the true benefits and limitations of more traditional voltage control solutions, and gains an understanding and appreciation of the innovative grid voltage control and protection solutions here proposed; solutions aimed at improving the security, efficiency and quality of electrical power system operation around the globe. Voltage Control and Protection in Electrical Power Systems: From System Components to Wide-Area Control will help to show engineers working in electrical power companies and system operators the significant advantages of new control solutions and will also interest academic control researchers studying ways of increasing power system stability and efficiency. Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.

This Symposium on Catalyst Deactivation ensues those held at Berkeley (1985), Antwerp (1980) and Berkeley (1978).The three main topics emphasised at this most recent symposium were: the techniques used in deactivation studies, the mechanisms of catalyst deactivation, and modelling. With respect to the first, it became apparent that the study of deactivation faces even more difficulties than the characterization of fresh catalysts and the measurement of activity or selectivity, due to the multiplicity of interacting processes occurring during deactivation.
