I quaderni di laboratorio di Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794) sono fonti preziose per chi studia la cosiddetta "nuova chimica" del Settecento. Tutt'ora inediti, questi documenti sono qui riletti alla luce di un dettaglio: la presenza, tra una pagina e l'altra, della grafia di Marie-Anne Paulze-Lavoisier (1758-1836), moglie e collaboratrice del celebre chimico francese. E in effetti lei, ben piu di altri assistenti, a compilare questo grande "archivio dell'esperimento", per poi conservarlo (senza mai smettere di maneggiarlo) nei quattro decenni che seguirono la morte del marito nel 1794. Un lavoro che lei stessa assimilava con orgoglio a quello di un segretario. Questo libro ricuce insieme queste storie, aprendo nuove prospettive tra storia materiale della scienza, storia sociale e storia delle donne e di genere.

Hochschulen sind mit einer Vielzahl von Unsicherheiten, Herausforderungen und Erwartungen konfrontiert, die eine Anpassung institutionellen Handelns mit sich bringen. Externe und interne Einflussgrößen haben den Umgang mit Unsicherheiten in unterschiedlichen Bereichen der Hochschulen wesentlich geprägt; ein dynamisches Umfeld und der gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Wandel die Zielgruppenorientierung in Hochschulsystemen verstärkt. Neben den zentralen Aufgaben der Hochschulen (Forschung und Lehre) werden ebenso Leistungen im Bereich der Dritten Mission als genuine Betätigungsfelder einer Institution erachtet. Die vielseitigen Aufgaben führen zu einer Komplexitätssteigerung in der Steuerung, Qualitätsentwicklung und in der Zieldefinition sowie dem Selbstverständnis hochschulischen Handelns. Somit ist nicht nur das Leistungsportfolio einer Hochschule gewachsen, auch die Beeinflussbarkeit der Institutionen von außen und innen hat sich verändert. Mit der Zunahme der Anforderungen hat die Wirkungsbreite und -tiefe der einzelnen Einflussfaktoren auf das hochschulische Handeln zugenommen. Mithilfe dieses Tagungsbandes des Netzwerk Hochschulforschung Österreich werden die Dynamik des Hochschulwesens und die enge Verschränkung mit gesellschaftlichen und bildungspolitischen Ereignissen aufgezeigt.
