Abstract

The go-to resource for managing a full spectrum of clinical scenarios in acute ischemic stroke Ever-evolving technological advances have created a daunting number of emergent neurointerventional protocols and therapies for treating acute ischemic stroke. This has created an urgent need for reader-friendly, hands-on resources. Video Atlas of Acute Ischemic Stroke Intervention edited by renowned neuroinventional stroke experts Maxim Mokin, Elad I. Levy, Adnan H. Siddiqui, and esteemed contributors fills a void in education and knowledge with interactive, case-based guidance on mastering challenging stroke interventions. The atlas leverages current knowledge and decades of experience in acute stroke treatment and device innovations to familiarize clinicians at various career stages with a wide repertoire of techniques available in the neurointerventional suite. The book focuses on technical aspects of interventional stroke procedures including pitfalls and complications, an overview of the most useful tools of the trade, and discussion of pre- and post-procedural care. Eighteen chapters provide comprehensive coverage on the most common endovascular treatment approaches for acute stroke--aspiration and stent-retriever thrombectomy of proximal, distal, and tandem occlusions. Several cases focus on recognition and management of complications that clinicians may encounter during emergent procedures. Topics include the importance of arterial access, unmet need in current devices, and methods for overcoming these challenges. Key Highlights Thirty-eight individually narrated, high-definition videos describe angiographic and procedural cases, step by step High-quality illustrations emphasize and delineate key aspects of complex procedures Firsthand tips and tricks enhance the ability to manage highly challenging and less common pathologies, including arterial dissection, atherosclerosis, and venous strokes This must-have resource will benefit all practitioners involved in the interventional care of patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Abstract

A structured, evidence-based approach to neurosurgical decision-making for brain pathologies Evidence-based neurosurgery is one of the most important pillars upon which to build decision management pathways. Effective delivery of care involves understanding the natural history of the disease and the evidence behind available treatment options. Neurosurgical Diseases: An Evidence-Based Approach to Guide Practice by esteemed neurosurgeons Leon T. Lai, Cristian Gragnaniello, and expert contributors covers cranial pathologies neurosurgeons commonly encounter in everyday practice. The book combines a structured approach to evidence-based neurosurgery with expert opinions, analysis of up-to-date clinical data, understanding of patient preferences and values, and firsthand experiences to facilitate translation of evidence into clinical practice. Twenty-seven consistently formatted chapters are each dedicated to a different disease state, including brain tumors, cerebrovascular disease, Cushing's disease, traumatic brain injury, trigeminal neuralgia, and normal pressure hydrocephalus. All chapters include an introduction, current statistics and data, natural history of the pathology, selected papers for further reading, procedural options and outcomes, and recommended treatment protocols from the authors. Key Features Key content summarized in reader-friendly bullets, diagrams, tables, and illustrative figures enhances acquisition of knowledge Discussion of new developments including treatment recommendations for primary and metastatic brain tumors Statistical data on cerebral aneurysm treatment outcomes and recommendations for treatment New protocols for treating head trauma, closed head injuries, and spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage This essential resource will help neurosurgical residents and junior neurosurgeons make challenging surgical treatment decisions for complex conditions, clearly and concisely and based on the best evidence.

Abstract

This book describes neurosurgical cases following the format of the clinical handover. Each case has a one line summary and differential diagnosis, appropriate interpretation of illustrated radiological studies, further ancillary tests, and management options. When appropriate, scoring/scaling systems and detailed anatomy are described, as well as basic surgical techniques and approaches. The information provided is evidence-based, referring to the relevant publications. Neurosurgery: A Case-Based Approach is aimed at junior neurosurgical trainees, both when studying for their exams and enhancing their ability to handover to colleagues.

Abstract

This video guide increases the surgeon's understanding of all types of surgical approaches for vestibular schwannoma surgery: retrosigmoid, translabyrinthine, middle cranial fossa and combined approaches. 2D and 3D videos are included to increase the readers’ understanding of these complex surgical techniques. These are accompanied by step-by-step narrated cadaveric dissection videos showing the crucial steps of each approach. This book is a learning tool and video reference for those training to perform the procedure and enhances the readers understanding of neuroanatomy. A detailed review of all surgical options and their risks, along with tips, tenets and pitfalls is included. The authors provide an unbiased discussion of all options with balanced comparison between surgical approaches and algorithms for patient selection.

Abstract

This book aims to familiarize readers with the overall scope of endoscopic surgeries for the treatment of various types of spinal disease. State of the art techniques for minimally invasive endoscopic procedures to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine are precisely described. The coverage includes cutting-edge endoscopic solutions for spinal canal stenosis or instability and low back pain. All technical aspects are explained in detail, and the text is complemented by many helpful illustrations. A further key feature is the provision of accompanying surgical videos, which will be of value to both novice and experienced surgeons. As a result of recent technological advances, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures are now being used for the treatment of patients with spinal problems in various institutes across the world. It can be anticipated that, in the near future, these procedures will be regarded as mainstream in spine surgery. The authors hope that this book will motivate the reader to participate in this trend, which promises important benefits for patients.

Abstract

Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is the most widely performed neuroendoscopic procedure around the world. Several scientific papers appear in the scientific literature every month, with an increasing number, given the great interest neuroendoscopy has aroused as well as controversies about certain aspects of endoscopic third ventriculostomy. With this reasoning, the goal of this book is to be a reference in the revision of classic concepts and scientifically proven aspects about the indications and techniques of endoscopic third ventriculostomy, as well as new neuroendoscopic tendencies. The book is structured in 2 parts and into 7 chapters. Part I – Classic Concepts – comprises the first 2 chapters, covering general aspects of neuroendoscopy such as historical notes, endoscopic anatomy and ventricular system physiology. Part II – State-of-the-Art – comprises chapters 3 to 7. From chapters 3 to 6 the book will discuss general principles of endoscopic ventricular technique and the applications of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in different age groups, and its association to choroid plexus coagulation. Chapter 7 deals with alternative ways of communicating the ventricular system with the cisterns of the subarachnoid space. All chapters are richly illustrated with high resolution images; there are links to online access to demonstrative surgical videos. Designed for neurosurgeons at every level, the book will be unique in the market, as there is no similar book in the current scientific literature that specifically discusses endoscopic third ventriculostomy in its broadest sense. .
