This is a new critical edition (in two volumes) of Vossius' Latin Poeticae institutiones , with a translation in English, an introduction, annotations and a commentary. In 1647 the Amsterdam professor Gerardus Vossius published his main work on poetics, Poeticarum institutionum libri III , which can be considered as an important result of the Dutch Golden Age. In the same year two shorter works appeared, De artis poeticae natura ac constitutione , which is an introduction to the main work, and De imitatione , which elaborates on two aspects of poetics: imitation and recitation. These are added in appendices, also with a translation, but without a commentary. Now this important early modern work on the making of poetry (labeled by Sellin as 'The last of the Renaissance monsters') is made available also for readers without Latin.

Gerhard Mercator (1512-1594) was the most important cartographer and globemaker of the 16th century. He is particularly remembered for his publication Atlas sive Cosmographicae Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi et Fabricati Figura (1595), and for his specific cylindrical map projection (1569), which is still used widely today. This book brings together the latest research on Mercator with a view to his sources and his relationships with other scientific disciplines and cartographers of his time, as well as his role in the wider worlds of Renaissance cartography and Humanism.

Since his death André Hazes has become an increasingly prominent phenomenon within the contemporary popular culture of the Netherlands. In retrospect, the illustrious farewell concert André Dank, on 27 September 2004 in the Amsterdam ArenA, appears to have only kicked off a long succession of cultural productions associated with Hazes: biographies, a statue, commemorative concerts, television programs, a musical and soon a feature film. . The figure André Hazes apparently speaks far and wide to the imagination. But what makes Hazes so appealing? This booklet tries to answer that question. It is not so much about 'the man Hazes' or his life, but about what is referred to here as 'the phenomenon Hazes'. The Hazes phenomenon reveals a number of broader phenomena from contemporary Dutch society, of which the BN'er culture, sing-along culture and culture of remembrance are the most determining factors. In addition, Hazes provides an excellent illustration of the importance nowadays attached to "authenticity" or "authenticity," and its central role in emotion.

"The Idea of a Moral Economy is the first modern edition and English translation of three questions disputed at the University of Paris in 1330 by the theologian Gerard of Siena. The questions represent the most influential late medieval formulation of the natural law argument against usury and the illicit acquisition of property. Together they offer a particularly clear example of scholastic ideas about the nature and purpose of economic activity and the medieval concept of a moral economy. In his introduction, editor Lawrin Armstrong discusses Gerard's arguments and considers their significance both within the context of scholastic philosophy and law and as a critique of contemporary mainstream economics. His analysis demonstrates how Gerard's work is not only a valuable source for understanding economic thought in pre-modern Europe, but also a fertile resource for scholars of law, economics, and philosophy in medieval Europe and beyond."--
