Os Institutos de Educação eram instituições complexas, cujo eixo central era a formação de professores articulada com vários níveis de ensino que funcionavam nos próprios institutos. Neste livro, Aline de Novaes Conceição reconstitui elementos de uma história do Instituto de Educação "Fernando Costa", que funcionou de 1953 a 1975, enfocando a instalação, encerramento e as vivências dos sujeitos da instituição, ou seja, alunos, familiares, professores, diretores e supervisores. A autora explica que a instituição pesquisada foi recebida positivamente pelos habitantes da cidade e o encerramento causou indignação e manifestações contrárias. O Instituto de Educação "Fernando Costa", funcionou buscando um diálogo com a localidade, tendo a formação dos professores sido realizada articulando com a prática vivenciada pelos sujeitos no Curso Primário Anexo, no Ensino Secundário e no Curso Colegial, sendo esse instituto um espaço privilegiado para a formação de professores, cujos cursos localizados nesse espaço, tinham conflitos que envolviam diretores, professores e aluno.

Globalgeschichtliche Zugriffe sind in der Geschichtswissenschaft angekommen. Auf der 11. Arbeitstagung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Frühe Neuzeit hatten sich die Beiträger zum Ziel gesetzt, Europa im Kontext ferner Weltregionen in den Blick zu nehmen. "Europa" unterlag als politisch-kulturelle Raumvorstellung und auch als Forschungsgegenstand immer wieder vielschichtigen Aushandlungsprozessen, die nicht nur entlang territorialer Herrschaftsgrenzen, eindeutiger Topographien oder von Sprachräumen verliefen. Die Ergebnisse der Tagung eröffnen neue Blicke auf geographisch und historisch imaginierte Selbst- und Fremdzuschreibungen, Behauptungen von Identität und Alterität und die Wandelbarkeit von Peripherie und Zentrum. The term the Cold War has had many meanings and interpretations since it was originally coined and has been used to analyse everything from comics to pro-natalist policies, and science fiction to gender politics. This range has great value, but also poses problems, notably by diluting the focus on war of a certain type, and by exacerbating a lack of precision in definition and analysis. The Cold War: A Military History is the first survey of the period to focus on the diplomatic and military confrontation and conflict. Jeremy Black begins his overview in 1917 and covers the 'long Cold War', from the 7th November Revolution to the ongoing repercussions and reverberations of the conflict today.
