Many-body Boson Systems: Half a Century Later offers a modern way of dealing with the problems of equilibrium states of Bose systems. Starting with the variation principle of statistical mechanics and the energy-entropy balance principle as equilibrium criteria, results for general boson systems and models are explicitly derived using simple functional analytic calculus. Bridging the gap between idea’s of general theoretical physics and the phenomenological research in the field of Bose systems, this book provides an insight into the fascinating quantum world of bosons. Key topics include the occurrence of BEC and its intimate structural relation with the phenomena of spontaneous symmetry breaking and off-diagonal long range order; the condensate equation; the issue concerning the choice of boundary conditions; solvable versus non-solvable boson models; the set of quasi-free boson states; the role of dissipative perturbations; and the surprising but general relation between general quantum fluctuations and boson systems. Only some knowledge of quantum mechanics and undergraduate algebra and analysis is assumed. This textbook brings students and researchers smoothly from general concepts to vivid applications.

André F. Nebe uses his humour structure analysis to make viewers' preferences and corresponding audiovisual offerings in films visible. Complex and multi-layered audiovisual (hypotactic) humour is used in the more successful films, while less successful films make simple (paratactic) humour offerings. Humour structure analysis offers insights into promising humour offerings and can also be used in the story development phase for writers, directors, producers and dramaturges. The content Humour in science and practice Questioning children about humour Components of humour-categorised film analysis Correlations between children's humour preferences and humour offerings in the analysed films Correlations to budget, shooting days and number of visitors The target groups Lecturers and students of media studies and film schools Film producers and directors, scriptwriters, TV editors, licence buyers for film/TV, film funding institutions The author André F. Nebe studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin, film directing at the University of Hamburg and earned his doctorate at the Babelsberg Film University. Among other things, he is the director of the feature film "Das grosse Rennen", author of various episodes of the ZDF series "Löwenzahn", was an editor for the SWR children's series "Motzgurke" and is the author of children's books in the series "Die Geisterreiter" and "Die Küstenwölfe". André F. Nebe is a lecturer at media and film schools. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com).

Ecological restoration is a rapidly growing discipline that encompasses a wide range of activities and brings together practitioners and theoreticians from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, ranging from volunteer backyard restorationists to highly trained academic scientists and professional consultants. This book offers a comprehensive and coherent account of the field for everyone who initiates, finances, designs, administers, issues government permits for, manages, and implements ecological restoration projects, and all those who serve in supportive roles. Originally published in 2007, this revised and reorganized edition brings the book up to date with new developments and current trends in the field. In a lively, personal fashion, the authors discuss scientific and practical aspects of the field as well as the human needs and values that motivate practitioners. The book - identifies fundamental concepts upon which restoration is based - considers the principles of restoration practice - explores the diverse values that are fulfilled with the restoration of ecosystems - reviews the structure of restoration practice, including the various contexts for restoration work, the professional development of its practitioners, and the relationships of restoration with allied fields and activities. The book also includes case studies and Virtual Field Trips around the world that illustrate points made in the book with on-the-ground information from those who were intimately involved with the projects described. Throughout, ecological restoration is conceived as a holistic endeavor, one that addresses issues of ecological degradation, biodiversity loss, personal engagement, and sustainability science simultaneously, and draws upon cultural resources and local skills and knowledge in restoration work.

Numerical and statistical methods have rapidly become part of a palaeolimnologist’s tool-kit. They are used to explore and summarise complex data, reconstruct past environmental variables from fossil assemblages, and test competing hypotheses about the causes of observed changes in lake biota through history. This book brings together a wide array of numerical and statistical techniques currently available for use in palaeolimnology and other branches of palaeoecology.
