Margarete Susman (1872-1966), a prominent figure in German-speaking culture, was an essayist, Kulturtheoretikerin, philosopher, poet and painter. His vast production - almost unknown in Italy - deals with various themes: from literary criticism to interreligious dialogue, from the study of Romanticism to portraits of great personalities of the past and of his time. This book investigates the ëfeminile 'in Susman from two points of view: from a formal perspective, it describes the path of a writer who, from the early years of the twentieth century, moves between poetry and essay, passing through the comparison with the epistolary culture ; from a thematic perspective, it examines the essays in which Susman deals with sexual difference and the relationship between the 'masculine' and the 'feminine'.

Gender stereotypes are transported intentionally or unintentionally into teaching and education. We rather expect strength and lack of concentration from boys, diligence and adaptability from girls. This problem has long been addressed in teacher training courses. The authors discuss the gender competence demanded by teachers from different perspectives and offer suggestions for school practice. Aspects for further development of scientifically founded teacher training with regard to gender-competent teaching and learning is also discussed.

[...] Kurzum, ›Making Sex Revisited‹ ist eine Wohltat, bietet Ansätzen kritischer Gender Studies breite Anschlusspunkte, ist erkenntnisreich und spannend zu lesen.« Verena Schuh, GENDER, 3 (2010) »Dieses Buch differenziert die einzelnen historischen Positionen [zu Geschlecht] aus biologisch-medizinischer Perspektive und begründet treffend die Annahme, dass mehrere Geschlechter möglich sind.« Impulse, 67/6 (2010) Besprochen in: Deutschlandfunk, Studiozeit, 26.01.2012 Deutschlandradio Kultur, 18.01.2012 WochenSpiegel, 14.12.2011 www.brainlogs.de, 26.02.2011, Ferdinand Knauß Phase 2, 1 (2011), Merve Winter Postgender, 2 (2011), Michel Reiter www.suite101.de, 27.09.2010, Tina Pruschmann Rosige Zeiten, 129 (2010), Johannes Ungelenk http://schwule-seite.de, 01.09.2010 http://maedchenblog.blogspot.de, 09.08.2010 www.genderqueer.de, 02.07.2010 www.krisis.org, 01.07.2010, Julian Bierwirth Gigi, 66 (2010), Florian Mildenberger www.grundmast.wordpress.com, 20.05.2010, Steffi Grundmann www.transgenderradio.de, 13./27.03.2010

The field of androgen excess disorders has advanced substantially since the original publication of this book. The Androgen Excess Society (AES) was founded to bring together investigators in the field. A better understanding of the screening, progression, and molecular genetics of nonclassic adrenal hyperplasia (NCAH) has improved the clinical care and diagnostic accuracy of these patients. New criteria for the diagnosis of the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were proposed in Rotterdam, criteria that have resulted in controversy and, hopefully, initiation of new studies. The association of insulin resistance with PCOS has been strengthened, and the role of metformin in tre- ing the infertility of the PCOS has been validated. Risks for diabetes and, more cont- versially, cardiovascular disease in women with PCOS have received substantial investigation. Our understanding of the epidemiology and economic impact of these disorders has expanded, emphasizing their critical importance. These are but a few highlights of how the terrain has changed in a relatively brief period of time. In keeping with these advances, the title of this book has been revised to reflect the growing importance of PCOS as the most prevalent androgen excess disorder in women, and arguably, as the one that might have the most serious adverse consequences for general health. There are fewer chapters to provide a more focused elucidation of the area. Several chapters were penned by new (and young) authors who are conducting cutting-edge research in the field.
