Abstract

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder (PD) are two common mental illnesses that present in primary care clinics, often with physical symptoms that can inhibit appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Recognition of these disorders by primary care physicians is much lower than the expected rates--in part due to somatic presentations but also due to the lack of routine screening that is in place for some other mental illnesses. Patients with anxiety disorders are often high utilizers of health care resources, and when their anxiety disorders are not diagnosed and treated, they can frequently undergo more expensive testing to rule out medical causes. Identification of accurate and feasible screening instruments for GAD and PD that have been validated in primary care settings have the potential to improve detection and facilitate treatment of these disorders within the primary care clinic, or to generate appropriate referral. Our report is a systematic review of the literture to evaluate the performance of self-report instruments used to diagnose GAD and PD in primary care settings.

Abstract

Abstract

This second edition of a much praised and widely used reference manual on anatomic pathology has been extensively revised and expanded to cover the entire field of anatomic pathology, including molecular pathology, human genetics, electron microscopy, microbiology for surgical pathologists, transplant pathology, and cytopathology. A distinguished panel of 70+ recognized experts from around the world have incorporated recent advances in molecular pathology, cytology, and immunohistochemistry, adopted the new series of World Health Organization classification books, and used the 2002 TNM staging system and classifications throughout the book. Several new chapters on transplant pathology, the spleen, non-neoplastic skin diseases, the head and neck, the eye and ocular adnexa, the vulva and vagina, and the penis and scrotum significantly expand the book's coverage. The 2000+ new black-and-white images added to the text are also available in full color on a companion CD-ROM packaged with each book. The comprehensive, evidence-based practice information is presented in an outline format that is clear and easy to follow. A full text version of the book, including the color images, is available on CD-ROM and sold separately (ISBN 1-59259-926-5). Up-to-date and richly detailed, Essentials of Anatomic Pathology, Second Edition offers both the pathologist-in-training and the practicing pathologist a concise summary of all the critical information needed to recognize, understand, and interpret anatomic pathology.

Abstract

Endocrine Pathology: Differential Diagnosis and Molecular Advances, Second Edition provides detailed coverage of endocrine pathology with extensive discussion of the differential diagnosis as well as presentation of molecular pathobiology of the major endocrine organs. Revised and expanded from the first edition, each chapter, written by leaders in their respective field, has been updated with the latest advances that are transforming the field of endocrine pathology. Richly illustrated with color photomicrographs, useful diagrams and line drawings, each chapter includes differential diagnosis of common and uncommon lesions as well as material on molecular developments, with emphasis on the molecular findings that are most helpful in the diagnosis of specific disorders. Endocrine Pathology: Differential Diagnosis and Molecular Advances, Second Edition, provides a useful and well-organized resource designed not only for the endocrine pathologist and the general surgical pathologist, but also for the clinical endocrinologist and the endocrine surgeon.

Abstract

This book explains how radiology can be a powerful tool for establishing the diagnosis of many internal medicine diseases that are usually diagnosed on the basis of their laboratory or clinical presentation. It is organized in the classic fashion for internal medicine books, with eleven chapters covering the different internal medicine specialties. Within these chapters, more than 450 diseases are considered, some of which are rarely encountered but are nonetheless significant. For each disease, radiological and clinical features are displayed in images and high-quality digital medical illustrations, and those differential diagnoses are identified that can be ruled out by imaging alone. In addition, the pathophysiology underlying the radiological features is described, enabling the reader to understand why a particular sign is seen on MR images, CT scans, or plain radiographs. The book will serve as an excellent radiological atlas for internal medicine practitioners and family physicians, showing disease presentations that may be hard to find in standard medical textbooks and explaining which imaging modalities are likely to be most informative in particular patients.

Abstract

Head and neck pathology is increasingly becoming an attractive field for the new generations of pathologists, fully aware that in the era of specialization the information contained in the treatise of general surgical pathology, although extremely valuable to create the basis of their knowledge, does not provide in its full picture the specific knowledge required to meet current diagnostic and prognostic requirements. The book Pathology of the Head and Neck presents in a single volume the most pertinent and updated information needed by the interested readers. Its contents have been divided into ten chapters. The first one covers the spectrum of precursor and neoplastic lesions of the squamous epithelium. It is followed by chapters devoted to nasal cavities and paranasal sinuses, oral cavity, maxillofacial skeleton and teeth, salivary glands, nasopharynx and Waldeyer`s ring, larynx and hypopharynx, ear and temporal bone, neck and neck dissection, as well as eye and ocular adnexa. The authors of the different chapters have been selected among internationally recognized experts, all of them members of the Working Group on Head and Neck Pathology of the European Society of Pathology.
