How can someone, committed to a Christian view of life, reason concerning ethical issues? That is the main question of this book, which seeks to contribute to an understanding of morality as a human phenomenon. A central question in this respect is how it is possible to understand human beings as persons having free will and moral responsibility. It emerges from the analysis that Christian faith contributes to ethics in three different ways: first, it provides a perspective on human life and its setting, second, it offers an understanding of human beings as personal subjects, while, third, the Christian tradition supplies us with edifying narratives containing patterns of good human life. In the final chapter, one particular case of applied ethics is analysed: How should the acceptable level of accidental death within a given context be established? (Peeters)

Analyzes dying and death in the cosmopolitan setting. While providing a portrait of dying, this book also tells us a great deal about life. It demonstrates that the foundation for the medicalization of death that shapes the life experience of dying persons and loved ones is a product of the ways of life in the broader culture. The explicit purpose of this book is to analyze dying and death in the cosmopolitan, modern setting. There is, however, an additional theme that is implicit in the analysis and observations. The portrait of dying, which is provided in the pages of the book, also tells us a great deal about life. It demonstrates that the foundation for the medicalization of death that piercingly shapes the life experience of dying persons and loved ones is a product of the ways of life in the broader culture.

In the first part of this thesis we extend the theory of anisotropic Triebel-Lizorkin spaces to time-periodic functions. In particular, the spatial trace space is determined together with the existence of extension operators. Additionally, some results regarding pointwise multiplication are provided. As a preparation for this theory we prove a transference principle for multipliers with values in the spaces of summable sequences. Secondly, we consider the equations of magnetohydrodynamics with a background magnetic field and time-periodic forcing. Maximal regularity of the time-periodic linear problem is established by applying the results of the first part. The existence of a solution to the non-linear problem is shown for a large class of background magnetic fields via a fixed-point argument.
