This second edition volume expands on the previous edition with a look at the latest techniques used to study plant hormone jasmonate (JA). The chapters in this book are organized into three parts: Parts One and Two discuss the role of JA in plant physiology and development, and in plant-biotic interactions. Part Three talks about methods used by researchers to study jasmonate metabolism and signaling. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Cutting-edge and practical, Jasmonate in Plant Biology: Methods and Protocols, Second Edition is a valuable resource for both novice and expert researchers who are interested in learning more about this developing field. .

"The decline of British power in Asia, from a high point in 1905, when Britain's ally Japan had vanquished the Russian Empire, apparently reducing the perceived threat that Russia posed to British interests in India and China, to the end of the twentieth century, when British power had dwindled to virtually nothing, is one of the most important themes in understanding the modern history of East and Southeast Asia. This book considers a range of issues that illustrate the significance and influence of the British Empire in Asia and the nature of Britain's imperial decline. Subjects covered include the challenges posed by Germany and Japan during the First World War, British efforts at international co-operation in the interwar period, the British relationship with Korea and Japan in the wake of the Second World War, and the complicated path of decolonisation in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong"--Provided by publisher.

The text discusses the unfolding of identities, especially in European society, in dialogue with the analysis of Saramago's blindness and the idea of mass-man in Ortega y Gasset. The objective is to rethink the transits and unraveling of humanization processes that transcend the European Union project and the speeches of David Maria Sassoli, as president of the European Parliament.

Health Assets in a Global Context: Theory, Methods, Action Edited by Antony Morgan, Maggie Davies, and Erio Ziglio As global health inequities continue to widen, policymakers are redoubling their efforts to address them. Yet the effectiveness and quality of these programs vary considerably, sometimes resulting in the reverse of expected outcomes. While local political issues or cultural conflicts may play a part in these situations, an important new book points to a universal factor: the prevailing deficit model of assessing health needs, which puts disadvantaged communities on the defensive while ignoring their potential strengths. The asset model proposed in Health Assets in a Global Context offers a necessary complement to the problem-focused framework by assessing multiple levels of health-promoting aspects in populations, and promoting joint solutions between communities and outside agencies. The book provides not only rationales and methodologies (e.g., measuring resilience and similar elusive qualities) but also concrete examples of asset-based initiatives in use across the world on the individual and community levels, including: • Strengthening the assets of disadvantaged women (Germany). • Sustainable community-based development programs (India). • Using parental assets to control child malaria (West Africa). • Asset/evidence-based health promotion in the schools (Romania). • Evaluating asset-based programs (Latin America). • Using social capital to promote health equity (Australia). Health Assets in a Global Context offers a new, positive lens for viewing the world’s most resistant public health crises, making it fundamental reading for researchers and graduate students in public health, especially those involved in health promotion, health disparities, social determinants of health, and global health.

This volume is made up of essays first presented as papers at the conference held in May 2015 at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw. It is divided into two sections. The first deals with museological questions-the voices of the curators, comments on the POLIN museum exhibitions and projects, and discussions on Jewish museums and education. The second examines the current state of the historiography of the Jews on the Polish lands from the first Jewish settlement to the present day. Making use of the leading scholars in the field from Poland, Eastern and Western Europe, North America, and Israel, the volume provides a definitive overview of the history and culture of one of the most important communities in the long history of the Jewish people.
