Der Begriff der Kultur hat seinen festen Platz im Kontext der Migrationssozialarbeit, der kulturellen Bildung oder der interkulturellen Pädagogik. In jedem dieser Felder wird der Begriff unterschiedlich verstanden und inhaltlich gefüllt. Die Beiträge des Bandes beleuchten den mehrdeutigen Begriff der Kultur aus der Perspektive verschiedenster Wissenschaftsdisziplinen, stellen die differenten Verständnisse kritisch einander gegenüber und diskutieren sie. Das Buch vereint unter anderem die Perspektiven der Philosophie, Soziologie und Musikwissenschaft.

Robert Davidsohn (1853–1937) ist bis heute aufgrund seiner monumentalen Geschichte des mittelalterlichen Florenz in Fachkreisen ein Begriff. Kaum etwas weiß man von seinem ungewöhnlichen Werdegang. Aus einer assimilierten jüdischen Danziger Kaufmannsfamilie stammend, war er als junger Mann als Journalist und Zeitungsunternehmer in Berlin erfolgreich. Nach einem späten Geschichtsstudium wählte er die Lebensform eines Privatgelehrten in Florenz, wo er Aufnahme in die Kreise der gebildeten wohlhabenden städtischen Eliten fand und internationale Anerkennung als Historiker gewann. Die vor wenigen Jahren entdeckte Autobiographie Davidsohns, die hier als kommentierte Erstedition vorgelegt wird, ist ein einmaliges Zeugnis eines deutsch-jüdischen Grenzgängers zwischen Deutschland und Italien, zwischen Journalismus und Geschichtswissenschaft, zwischen zünftiger und freier historischer Forschung, in einem weiten Bogen von den 1850er Jahren bis in die Zeit von Faschismus und Nationalsozialismus.; »Robert Davidsohn (1853-1937). People I knew – Memories of an Octogenarian« The book presents the annotated edition of the memoir of Robert Davidsohn (1853–1937), a German-Jewish scholar, still known for his history of Medieval Florence. The autobiography is the document of a life between Germany and Italy, of a man who after a career as a journalist and a newspaper publisher in ›Kaiserreich‹ Berlin, chose to become an independent historian living in Florence and gaining international academic recognition, and, as an old man, had to confront the triumph of Fascism and Nazism.

This volume is based on the section "Transnationalities - Transidentities - Hybridities - Diasporization", organized by the Ibero-American and Francophone Research Centres of the University of Leipzig as part of the First Annual Conference of the Centre for Area Studies at the University of Leipzig. By now, already a decade has passed since our conference section took place and it is due to various circumstances that this volume has not been published earlier. It carries along, in some sense, its own migration trace. Nevertheless, the questions examined in the contributions have reached even more relevance since then in both, the Old World and the New, due to the various political, social, economic and ecological crisis around the globe that have led to the increased arrival of refugees to Europe and the harsh discussion about a concrete or "intelligent" wall to shield the USA from Latin American migrants, among others. Today, there is an urgent political and social need for concepts of living together in much more heterogeneous and much less familiar societies. The questions, notions and cases explored in the nine contributions that comprise this publication focus on this emergency. Participants on the volume: A. Chanady; A. de Toro; W. Ch. Dimock; D. ALFONSO DE TORO is Professor emeritus for Spanish, Portuguese, Ibero-American and Francophone Literatures and Cultures at the University of Leipzig. He is the founder and director of the Ibero-American and Francophone Research Centers (IAFS and FFSL). His research and publications are focused on theatre, narrative, and poetry in France, the Maghreb, Spain, Latin America, and Italy; as well as on culture, post-modern, post-colonial theories and hybridity and diaspora theories. CORNELIA SIEBER is Professor for Spanish, Portuguese and Latin-American Culture at the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz - Germersheim. She is director of the Centre for Latin American and Transatlantic Studies (CELTRA) and Co-Director of the IAFS. Die Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft gilt gemäß aktueller Branchenberichte als Hoffnungsträger für Beschäftigung und wirtschaftliche Entwicklung. Demgegenüber stehen jedoch prekäre Arbeitsverhältnisse, fehlende soziale Absicherung, eine zunehmende »Entgrenzung« von Arbeit und Privatleben sowie geringe Einkommensmöglichkeiten für die Akteur_innen des Arbeitsmarktes Kultur. In diesem Spannungsfeld fokussiert Anne Heinze speziell auf die Selbstständigen der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft. Wie manifestiert sich der abstrakte und oftmals unterbestimmte Begriff der menschlichen Würde in konkreten räumlichen Konstellationen - etwa öffentlichen Gebäuden oder in einem Hospiz? Die Beiträge des Bandes beleuchten interdisziplinär und dialogisch die unterschiedliche Auflösung dieses Spannungsverhältnisses zwischen Räumen und Würde.
