The Inter-American Law Review (IALR) (formerly Lawyer of the Americas) is a scholarly international legal periodical run entirely by second and third year law students at the University of Miami School of Law. The review is devoted to providing a forum through which legal scholars, practitioners, and students discuss major international and inter-American legal and legally-related developments. IALR is recognized as the only student-run periodical to focus solely on legal issues which directly affect Latin America and the Caribbean. With the continuing emergence of Miami as a center of international trade, finance, and law, the focus of IALR becomes increasingly important and relevant to the surrounding environs.

"Sound, Image, Silence explores how, over the course of three centuries, paintings, photographs and early silent films communicated the sounds and silences found in the New World to white audiences on the European continent. Through the representation of both landscapes and indigenous people, book explores the role of aural imagination as it pertains to the visualization of particular episodes of colonialism and oppression, but also tries to think seriously about how art historians should engage with sound in what is inherently a "mute" medium"--

Transculturality is a new way of viewing culture that sees cultures not as separate islands that are easily differentiated from one another, but as connected and interacting webs of meaning and practice. The Americas in particular offer many examples of transcultural identities that do not fit easily into one national or ethnic mold: Chicanos, Franco-Ontarians, Creoles, and second and third generation immigrants. From Quebec to Argentina, this volume explores these identities which create themselves in a space between sameness and difference.

Oil wealth and Federal Conflict in American Petrofederations documents the critical relationship between oil rents and federal conflicts by illustrating key concepts with six representative cross-regional case studies. Each case study discusses encompasses qualitative, quantitative and comparative elements under a common structure. With each petrofederation ranging in conflict types and modalities, the work as a whole identifies key differences including oil rent decentralization (in terms of resource property, sector management and distribution of revenues), sectoral importance (considered at national and subnational levels), and federation redistribution policy (in terms of fiscal federal imbalance, fiscal equalization, and oil rent use for regional equity).Collectively, the book generalizes a consistent theory of causality between oil rents and federal conflicts that take into account systemic variables. The book's conclusions will serve as a guide for researchers and policymakers seeking pathways to translate oil rents into development and stability.
