Chicano Nations argues that the trans-nationalism that is central to Chicano identity originated in the global, postcolonial moment at- the turn of the nineteenth century rather than as an effect of contemporary economic conditions, which began in the mid nineteenth century and primarily affected the labouring classes. Esta publicación da testimonio del primer coloquio sobre el tema Mujer y Literatura Mexicana y Chicana. Culturas en Contacto, realizado en Tijuana en abril de 1987. Su realización fue producto del esfuerzo de cuatro instituciones: El Colegio de México y su Programa Interdisciplinario de Estudios de la Mujer; El Colegio de la Frontera Norte, a través del Departamento de Estudios Culturales; la Universidad de California en San Diego y la Universidad de San Diego. Lo principal es que este libro desmiente el mutismo de la mujer en la cultura y recupera su palabra como fuente de reflexión y conocimiento en la literatura.
