The official catalog for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia consists of two volumes: the first is dedicated to the International Exhibition curated by Hashim Sarkis and the second presents the National Participations and Collateral Events. “How will we live together?” is as much a social and political question as a spatial one: rapidly changing social norms, growing political polarization, climate change and vast global inequalities are making us ask it more urgently than before. In parallel, the weakness of today's political models compels us to look at how architecture shapes inhabitation and community. The architects invited to participate in the Biennale Architettura 2021 are encouraged to include other professions and constituencies—artists, builders and craftspeople, but also politicians, journalists, social scientists and everyday citizens. In effect, the Biennale asserts the vital role of the architect as both cordial convener and custodian of the spatial contract.

"Domestic Space in France and Belgium offers a new addition to the growing body of work in Interior Studies. Focused on late 19th and early 20th-century France and Belgium, it addresses an overlooked area of modernity: the domestic sphere and its conception and representation in art, literature and material culture. Scholars from the US, UK, France, Italy, Canada and Belgium offer fresh and exciting interpretations of artworks, texts and modern homes. Comparative and interdisciplinary, it shows through a series of case-studies in literature, art and architecture, how modernity was expressed through domestic life at the turn of the century in France and Belgium."--

The world is in transition. Established ideas and lifestyles are under pressure: everything is in flux. This volatility and ambivalence can lead to uncertainty and even fear. The 2018 Bruges Triennial: Liquid City offers a beacon of hope, presenting a fluid, open and engaged city; Bruges as an engine of social, cultural and political change; a creative melting pot for encounters of all kinds; and a breeding ground for urban innovation. The liquid city of Bruges - literally ringed by the water that once brought it prosperity and fame - becomes a metaphorical Liquid City, characterised by fluidity, transition, influx and exchange: a continuous artistic dynamism that at times flows gently and at others turbulently through the city. The 2018 Bruges Triennial: Liquid City invites internationally acclaimed artists and architects from around the world to interpret the 'Liquid City' theme. They create an art trail dotted with temporary hospitable spaces, conceptual representations and unexpected places for encounters within the historic city centre.
