Abstract

If you've done some Arduino tinkering and wondered how you could incorporate the Kinect—or the other way around—then this book is for you. The authors of Arduino and Kinect Projects will show you how to create 10 amazing, creative projects, from simple to complex. You'll also find out how to incorporate Processing in your project design—a language very similar to the Arduino language. The ten projects are carefully designed to build on your skills at every step. Starting with the Arduino and Kinect equivalent of "Hello, World," the authors will take you through a diverse range of projects that showcase the huge range of possibilities that open up when Kinect and Arduino are combined. Gesture-based Remote Control. Control devices and home appliances with hand gestures.  Kinect-networked Puppet. Play with a physical puppet remotely using your whole body.  Mood Lamps. Build your own set of responsive, gesture controllable LED lamps. Drawing Robot. Control a drawing robot using a Kinect-based tangible table.  Remote-controlled Vehicle. Use your body gestures to control a smart vehicle. Biometric Station. Use the Kinect for biometric recognition and checking Body Mass Indexes.  3D Modeling Interface. Learn how to use the Arduino LilyPad to build a wearable 3D modelling interface.  360º Scanner. Build a turntable scanner and scan any object 360º using only one Kinect.  Delta Robot. Build and control your own fast and accurate parallel robot.  .

Abstract

Modern complex large-scale dynamical systems exist in virtually every aspect of science and engineering, and are associated with a wide variety of physical, technological, environmental, and social phenomena, including aerospace, power, communications, and network systems, to name just a few. This book develops a general stability analysis and control design framework for nonlinear large-scale interconnected dynamical systems, and presents the most complete treatment on vector Lyapunov function methods, vector dissipativity theory, and decentralized control architectures. Large-scale dynamical systems are strongly interconnected and consist of interacting subsystems exchanging matter, energy, or information with the environment. The sheer size, or dimensionality, of these systems necessitates decentralized analysis and control system synthesis methods for their analysis and design. Written in a theorem-proof format with examples to illustrate new concepts, this book addresses continuous-time, discrete-time, and hybrid large-scale systems. It develops finite-time stability and finite-time decentralized stabilization, thermodynamic modeling, maximum entropy control, and energy-based decentralized control. This book will interest applied mathematicians, dynamical systems theorists, control theorists, and engineers, and anyone seeking a fundamental and comprehensive understanding of large-scale interconnected dynamical systems and control.

Abstract

Arduino Projects to Save the World shows that it takes little more than a few tools, a few wires and sensors, an Arduino board, and a bit of gumption to build devices that lower energy bills, help you grow our own food, monitor pollution in the air and in the ground, even warn you about earth tremors. Arduino Projects to Save the World introduces the types of sensors needed to collect environmental data—from temperature sensors to motion sensors. You'll see projects that deal with energy sources—from building your own power strip to running your Arduino board on solar panels so you can actually proceed to build systems that help, for example, to lower your energy bills. Once you have some data, it's time to put it to good use by publishing it online as you collect it; this book shows you how. The core of this book deals with the Arduino projects themselves: Account for heat loss using a heat loss temperature sensor array that sends probes into every corner of your house for maximum measurement.  Monitor local seismic activity with your own seismic monitor. Keep your Arduino devices alive in the field with a solar powered device that uses a smart, power-saving design. Monitor your data and devices with a wireless radio device; place your sensors where you like without worrying about wires. Keep an eye on your power consumption with a sophisticated power monitor that records its data wherever you like. Arduino Projects to Save the World teaches the aspiring green systems expert to build environmentally-sound, home-based Arduino devices. Saving the world, one Arduino at a time. Please note: the print version of this title is black & white; the eBook is full color.
