A travers de nombreux exemples réels empruntés à des expérimentateurs issus de secteurs industriels variés, cet ouvrage expose de façon progressive et appliquée les techniques nécessaires à la conduite d'une étude par plans d'expériences. L'ensemble des types de plans est décrit de manière détaillée : plan factoriel complet, plan fractionnaire, plan pour surface de réponse, plan de mélanges, plan optimal, plan pour variables discrètes. En outre, cette 4e édition aborde également : les plans mixant des facteurs continus et des facteurs discrets. Ce type de situation nécessite des précautions particulières pour éviter des erreurs lors de l'interprétation des résultats ; les plans uniformes, de plus en plus utilisés dans le domaine des simulations numériques. L'absence d'erreur expérimentale impose des plans tout à fait différents des plans classiques et l'interprétation nécessite des méthodes mathématiques qui ne ressemblent en rien aux méthodes habituelles de l'expérimentique. Par ailleurs, une version récente et complète du logiciel de plans d'expériences JMP (SAS Institute Inc.) est téléchargeable.
