"Imagines Italicae, edited by M.H. Crawford and colleagues, is the outcome of a research project based in the combined library of the Hellenic and Roman Societies and of the Institute of Classical Studies, beginning in 2002 and initially supported by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council. The empire created by Rome underlies many of the structures of modern Europe, and that empire in turn was in its early stages the joint creation of Rome and the other peoples of Italy. Almost the only records left by those peoples themselves consist of the texts they inscribed and the coinages they produced. Imagines Italicae provides for the first time a complete corpus of those texts which are in one or other of the Italic languages, accompanied by photographs or drawings, a critical apparatus, an English translation where possible, a bibliography, and a full account of their discovery and archaeological context. The corpus, geographically arranged, contains 982 entries in total, lavishly illustrated, some of them multiple, preceded by a substantial Introduction, and completed by an Appendix of Italic names occurring in Greek texts, detailed Concordances, and full epigraphic indexes. The work is in a very real sense both that of the authors and of the 80 or so museums and libraries that welcomed the authors and helped them in every way possible, so as to enable them for the project to study and photograph their holdings; in subscribing to the work, you will both gain access to those holdings and also support the provision to each and every one of the museums and libraries in question of a copy of the work. It is a work that will make it possible for the first time to understand the complex linguistic geography of ancient Italy and to address crucial historical questions about the religion, culture, society, economy, and institutions of the peoples of Italy."--

Soigneusement établie sur un corpus de langue parlée, l’auteur présente l’hypothèse de la variation linguistique pluridimensionnelle : le clitique négatif ne est parfois réalisé, comme dans la phrase ma mère ne vient pas, mais très souvent omis, surtout dans la communication informelle : je viens pas. Comme toute variable lin-guistique, le ne de négation est soumis à un ensemble d’influences poten-tielles. The title of this Festschrift, Moving English Language Teaching Forward, is a tribute to Ragnhild E. Lund’s lifelong devotion to English language pedagogy and teaching. She is – in the words of Juliet Munden – “a Dame of English didactics”. Ragnhild would be the first one to share such praise with colleagues. All the authors of this book have in some way or other moved English language pedagogy forward together with Ragnhild, for example as co-writers, fellow doctoral committee members, colleagues at the University of South-Eastern Norway, or just good colleagues sharing the same commitment to English language pedagogy.As a researcher, Ragnhild is best known for her work in the field of intercultural competence, which made her one of the original members of the international Cultnet group. The initiative for this group was taken by Michael Byram, arguably the most influential theorist of intercultural competence development in the world. In this anthology, he writes about the first meeting of the Cultnet group in 1997 and charts some of the changes that have happened in “the cultural dimension” of language teaching since then.

Les Français peinent plus que leurs voisins à parler plusieurs langues. Et chacun de chercher les raisons de cet état de fait. Mais que se passe-t-il dans le cerveau de ceux qui en parlent au moins deux ? Y a-t-il une différence entre les bilingues précoces et les bilingues tardifs ? Y a-t-il toujours une langue dominante ? Peut-on définir un âge où l’acquisition d’une deuxième langue est facilitée ? Quels effets l’apprentissage de plusieurs langues a-t-il sur notre cerveau ? Cet apprentissage est-il globalement bénéfique ou entrave-t-il la connaissance approfondie du langage ? En proposant une synthèse d’études consacrées aux mécanismes cognitifs, linguistiques et neurocognitifs à l’oeuvre chez toute personne qui s’exprime, avec plus ou moins de facilité, dans plusieurs langues, cet ouvrage invite à mieux comprendre les ressorts d’un apprentissage efficace des langues. Il met en lumière comment le fait de s’exprimer dans au moins deux langues augmente la flexibilité cérébrale.
