Abstract

"The sculptural history of the long 1980s has been dominated by New British Sculpture and Young British Artists. Arguing for a more expansive history of British sculpture and its supporting infrastructures, these twenty-three vivid and enthralling interviews with artists, curators, dealers and facilitators working then demonstrate the interconnected networks, diversity of ideas and practices, energy, imagination and determination that transformed British art from being marginal to internationally celebrated. With a substantial introduction, this timely volume provides valuable new insights into the education, work, careers, studios, infrastructures and exhibitions of the artists and facilitators, substantially enlarging our understanding of the era"--

Abstract

Works for Works, Book 1: Useless Beauty tackles “legacy” issues of intellectual property rights (IPR) in artistic production and academic scholarship and proposes a category or class of works that has no relation to IPR nor to proprietary regimes of copyright and academic privilege. Keeney’s book is a structuralist argument for establishing new forms of artistic scholarship that operate in direct opposition to established norms in both the art world and neoliberal academia, and is also rigorously contextualized within past and present-day arguments for and against patrimonial and paternalistic, avant-garde and normative, forms of censure and conformity across cultural production.Works for Works, Book 1: Useless Beauty privileges an iterative, generative, and aleatory methodology for artistic scholarship, with transmedia proposed as a “tutelary form” of editioning works against the dictates of the art-academic complex. This focus on generativity also invokes the dialectical operations historically associated with past avant-gardes as they have negotiated an elective nihilism as an avenue for exiting established and authorized forms of conceptual and intellectual inquiry in the Arts and Humanities.

Abstract

Energy production and supply, as well as sourcing and consumption, are becoming evermore important in a volatile world. In this book, attention is paid to prevalent energy issues from a finance perspective. The topics discussed cover markets, prices, regulations and firms. An international group of authors from both academia and energy practice provides in twelve chapters a state of the art of the energy markets in a finance environment. They do so by discussing the current knowledge and presenting empirical research in this quickly changing and developing field. This book is the first in a planned series on energy at a high scientific level organized by the Centre for Energy and Value Issues (CEVI).

Abstract

Looking at the landscape of Private Equity and the specific characteristics of the different actors, the idea of this paper is to look which common aspects they share and on which ones they differ.
The aim of the present study is, at first, to deliver members of organizations or interested readers a broad overview of private equity. By doing so, people will better understand what is meant by this type of financing and which role these investors take in the company.
In addition, we want to look, which elements private equity investors take primarily into account when they decide whether to offer a financing or not. Related to this, non-financial aspects play an important role. Two of them are given a closer look: social responsibility and management.
Additionally, methods for the performance measurement of Private Equity funds, or more precisely individual equity investments, are also studied.
An inductive approach was adopted, with the observation of a case study at the company Ostbelgieninvest that is one of the nine Invests in the Walloon Region. The research was conducted analysing internal data on the one hand and using in-depth interviews with seven other actors of Private Equity on the other hand. Concerning. The collected information will enable Ostbelgieninvest to have a closer look at her strategy as well as to develop tools to further improve its effectiveness and performance. This will have to be in line with the mid-term strategy that will be defined.
What is absolutely clear from this research is the fact that the different actors of Private Equity, independently of their structure and their strategy, pay a lot of attention to the management of the companies they (are asked to) finance. Looking at the performance of their portfolio, there is no standardized method to calculate and to present it. Internal rating systems are developed based on specific needs.

Abstract

The Belgian community pharmacy sector is undergoing significant transformations due to the expansion of online sales, competition from large chains of parapharmacies, and technological advancements. This thesis explores how pharmacies can adapt and thrive in this environment by using analytical frameworks such as the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and innovation tools like the Value Proposition Canvas and the Lean Startup approach. The BSC allows for the evaluation of pharmacy performance through the perspectives of patients, financial aspects, internal processes, and learning. The study reveals that pharmacies need to focus on patient satisfaction, diversify their revenue sources, optimize their internal processes, and adopt a culture of continuous innovation to remain competitive. Personalized services, such as medication reviews and medication use counseling, are essential for retaining patients and improving the quality of care. This work proposes strategies and tools that community pharmacies could use to reinvent themselves, enhance their overall performance, and effectively meet the evolving needs of their patients while maintaining their central role in the healthcare system.
