Abstract

Trying to do justice to society's diversity is a challenge for public libraries. This volume provides an overview of the development of strategic and anti-discrimination organizations and of the work being done in the fields of events and inventory to disseminate information in a way that is sensitive to diversity. It also presents a range of practical examples form the program "360° - Fund for Cultures in the New Urban Society."

Abstract

The special issue of plant diversity in Southeast Asia will focus on the documentation of new discoveries in SE Asia. There are four global biodiversity hotspots in Southeast Asia. Although there are many plans to protect this rich biodiversity, however, the rich biodiversity in SE Asia is under threat due to economic development and population growth. There is a huge gap between our knowledge and biodiversity in SE Asia. During the last six investigations, many new taxa, including new species, new genera, have been discovered. This special issue will bring the rich but little known biodiversity to the public and protect them.

Abstract

Adopting an environmental anthropology approach, this article analyzes the diverse environmental practices in the community of Las Canas, a diversity that is based on both the population's heterogeneity and the country's revolutionary context. The transformations that have occurred in fishing, tourism and natural resource conservation have generated new practices and perceptions, and provided opportunities for a better quality of life. Affected by structural economic and political changes, this diversity has given rise to a constant redefinition of the inhabitants' relationship with the environment, while allowing them to recreate, on a human scale, their own revolution.

Abstract

Diversity and multiculturalism have become pervasive in today’s organizations. Facets of Managing in Cross-Cultural Diversity is a timely publication critically exploring the phenomenon of managing in cross-cultural diversity. This book offers important insights on real issues and studies into management in a cross-cultural, global environment, and uncovers the issues from macro and group-individual perspectives. Unlike most publications on diversity which are limited to a single country’s experience, this book brings together authors who write about and study workplace diversity in the context of different countries and cultures. Abstract

This unique Research Handbook covers a wide range of issues that affect the careers of those in diverse groups: age, appearance, disability, gender, race, religion, sexuality and transgender. This work includes cross-disciplinary contributions from over 50 international academics, researchers, policy-makers, managers and psychologists, who review current thinking, practices, initiatives and developments within diversity and careers research on an international scale. They also consider the implication of diversity legislation for organizations and the individual, providing an insight into the future direction of research and practice. Unlike other research in the field, this work presents wide-ranging and holistic coverage of diverse groups in addition to considering the implication of individuals who appear in multiple categories. Students, academics and researchers in the fields of human resources, management and employment as well as those whose study encompasses diversity, development and equality will find this Research Handbook to be a useful and insightful read.

Abstract

Why do larger areas have more species? What makes diversity so high near the equator? Has the number of species grown during the past 600 million years? Does habitat diversity support species diversity, or is it the other way around? What reduces diversity in ecologically productive places? At what scales of space and time do diversity patterns hold? Do the mechanisms that produce them vary with scale? This book examines these questions and many others, by employing both theory and data in the search for answers. Surprisingly, many of the questions have reasonably likely answers. By identifying these, attention can be turned toward life's many, still-unexplained diversity patterns. As evolutionary ecologists race to understand biodiversity before it is too late, this book will help set the agenda for diversity research into the next century.
