The book covers the concepts, techniques and strategies of oncoplastic breast surgery and reconstruction for breast cancer patients. It includes contemporary surgical procedures with step-by-step illustrations, pre-operative and post-operative considerations, pearls and pitfalls shared from the personal experiences and surgical practices of the individual authors. Experienced authors with diverse backgrounds and an in-depth understanding of the domains are involved in curating the content of the book. This book mainly focuses on practical tips and surgical techniques to reach a broad spectrum of surgeons practicing breast surgery from low and middle-income countries. It provides both the scientific basis and practical tips from experienced surgeons in the field. Breast cancer is an emerging major public health problem in low and middle-income countries. While the surgical approach to breast cancer has witnessed a major shift from mastectomy to breast conservation, oncoplasty and reconstruction in western countries, the field of breast surgery is still evolving in low and middle-income countries. Barriers to adopting newer surgical approaches include socio-cultural factors, disease-related factors, resource-related factors and availability of expertise. This book fills the gap and helps surgeons in low and middle-income countries in adapting contemporary breast surgical techniques into their day-to-day practice. This book will be relevant for surgical oncologists, breast and endocrine surgeons, general surgeons practicing breast surgery and plastic surgeons. Additionally, it will serve as a resource book for residents and fellows from general surgery, surgical oncology, breast surgery and plastic surgery streams.

Breast reconstruction is a fascinating and complex field which combines reconstructive and aesthetic principles in the search for the best results possible. The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore the appearance of the breast and to improve a woman's psychological health after cancer treatment. Successful breast reconstruction requires a clear understanding of reconstructive operative techniques and a thorough knowledge of breast aesthetic principles. Edited by Marzia Salgarello, and including contributions from respected reconstructive breast plastic surgeons from around the world, this book focuses on the main current techniques in breast reconstruction and also gives some insight into specific topics. The text consists of five sections, of which the first focuses on the oncologic aspect of breast reconstruction. Section two covers prosthetic breast reconstruction, section three is dedicated to autogenous breast reconstruction, and section four analyzes breast reconstruction with a fat graft. Finally, section five covers the current approaches to breast reshaping after conservative treatment.

Employed for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes, breast implants are one of the most widely-used and controversial prostheses available. The development of safe, reliable products is vital to the future of this important field of surgery. Biomaterials in plastic surgery reviews the history, materials and safety issues associated with breast implants.Beginning with an introduction to the history of biomaterials used for breast augmentation, Biomaterials in plastic surgery goes on to discuss development issues. It then discusses the chemistry and physical properties of biomedical

Although there is a current ban in many countries on the injection of liquid silicone, paraffin or polyacrylamide hydrogels or other gel or liquid materials into the breasts for the purpose of increasing size, there are still a large number of non-professionals who use these injections and offer them as a cheap alternative to plastic surgery. The results, at first, may seem cosmetically favorable for the patient, but these injections often lead to painful complications like mastitis (inflammation of the mammary gland) and can make it incredibly difficult to diagnose breast cancer early. Many patients suffer delayed complications that force them to seek expert care for corrective and reconstructive surgery. This book, the culmination of decades of research, aims to serve the surgeon faced with these complications, offering a detailed step-by-step guide of the pathology from clinical diagnosis and imaging studies to the different surgical and reconstructive procedures for reconstruction. As there is no clinical management consensus or international guideline, Injection-Induced Breast Siliconomas: Clinical Implications, Evaluation and Treatment fills the gap in the literature and encourages more research. Previously published in Spanish in 2017 under the title "Siliconomas Mamarios por Inyeccion: Clinica, Diagnostico y Tratamiento", this English translation is a true re-edition of the original version with added updates for the English-speaking audience.
