The Conference, of which the volume constitutes the Proceedings, represented a significant meeting point between psychological and social research experiences (aimed at outlining behaviours and trends), and aspects of clinical and psychiatric field experience. The topics addressed during the Conference concerned the main atypical eating disorders, including Atypical Anorexia Nervosa, Atypical Bulimia Nervosa and Hyperphagic Behaviours associated with other psychological alterations.

Although dyspepsia has been investigated for a long period of time, there is no international agreement on what constitutes this condition nor any standardized guidelines. National guidelines followed by practitioners in different countries vary in diagnostic and therapeutic approach, underlining the necessity for a unique definition worldwide. Dyspepsia in Clinical Practice summarizes the current guidelines while offering a unified, practical definition of dyspepsia, and a diagnostic algorithm with an emphasis on the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and rational first-line therapeutic approach based on epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic workup and response to previous therapy. Up-to-date scientific information about dyspepsia is presented from a practical, clinician's point of view, brought by experts in their field. The volume addresses Dyspepsia in childhood and in the elderly, a very important issue often insufficiently emphasized in the literature. Guidelines are provided that can be easily followed in clinical practice, leading to a reduction in costs and patient safety. Dyspepsia in Clinical Practice will be of great value to gastroenterologists, internists, primary care physicians, pediatricians, infectious disease specialists, residents and fellows in training. Bad breath is a common and embarrassing problem. About 20% of adults suffer from bad breath on a day-to-day basis, and millions more worry about having it. In some cases, telltale breath odors can provide important clues regarding specific diseases. Yet, despite the prevalence and significance of bad breath, most health professionals still know little about its origins, diagnosis, and treatment. The past fifteen years have witnessed rapid development in research into bad breath. Investigators have studied how bad breath is caused, where the odors originate, and which bacteria and gases are involved. Predisposing dental and medical risk factors have been identified. Novel in vitro systems and measurement techniques have been proposed, and clinical studies conducted to compare new and traditional treatments. This illustrated text presents, for the first time, a comprehensive and cohesive science-based approach to bad breath, combining basic research with clinical approaches to diagnosis and treatment. All aspects of the subject are examined thoroughly and critically, including the psychological impact of breath odor and future prospects. The authors draw upon more than thirty years’ combined experience in the field, both in the laboratory and as consultants to thousands of patients in Canada, the US, the UK, and elsewhere.
