Embedded systems have an increasing importance in our everyday lives. The growing complexity of embedded systems and the emerging trend to interconnections between them lead to new challenges. Intelligent solutions are necessary to overcome these challenges and to provide reliable and secure systems to the customer under a strict time and financial budget. Solutions on Embedded Systems documents results of several innovative approaches that provide intelligent solutions in embedded systems. The objective is to present mature approaches, to provide detailed information on the implementation and to discuss the results obtained.

This book provides embedded software developers with techniques for programmingheterogeneous Multi-Processor Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs), capable of executing multiple applications simultaneously. It describes a set of algorithms and methodologies to narrow the software productivity gap, as well as an in-depth description of the underlying problems and challenges of today’s programming practices. The authors present four different tool flows: A parallelism extraction flow for applications writtenusing the C programming language, a mapping and scheduling flow for parallel applications, a special mapping flow for baseband applications in the context of Software Defined Radio (SDR) and a final flow for analyzing multiple applications at design time. The tool flows are evaluated on Virtual Platforms (VPs), which mimic different characteristics of state-of-the-art heterogeneous MPSoCs. • Provides a novel set of algorithms and methodologies for programming heterogeneous Multi-Processor Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs); • Equips embedded software developers with a unified presentation of sequential and parallel programming; • Focuses on industry-relevant methodologies and uses real case studies to demonstrate techniques; • Enables solution of multi-application problems, with generalized and unified programming models.

The 7th International Conference on Embedded and Multimedia Computing (EMC-12), will be held in Gwangju, Korea on September 6 - 8, 2012. EMC-12 will be the most comprehensive conference focused on the various aspects of advances in Embedded and Multimedia (EM) Computing. EMC-12 will provide an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in the area of EM. In addition, the conference will publish high quality papers which are closely related to the various theories and practical applications in EM. Furthermore, we expect that the conference and its publications will be a trigger for further related research and technology improvements in this important subject. The EMC-12 is the next event, in a series of highly successful International Conference on Embedded and Multimedia Computing, previously held as EMC 2011 (China, Aug. 2011), EMC 2010 (Philippines, Aug. 2010), EM-Com 2009 (Korea, Dec. 2009), UMC-08 (Australia, Oct. 2008), ESO-08(China, Dec. 2008), UMS-08 (Korea, April, 2008), UMS-07(Singapore, Jan. 2007), ESO-07(Taiwan, Dec. 2007), ESO-06(Korea, Aug. 2006). This book was supported by Korea Sanhak Foundation(KSF), Korea.

More than ever, FDL is the place for researchers, developers, industry designers, academia, and EDA tool companies to present and to learn about the latest scientific achievements, practical applications and users experiences in the domain of specification and design languages. FDL covers the modeling and design methods, and their latest supporting tools, for complex embedded systems, systems on chip, and heterogeneous systems. FDL 2009 is the twelfth in a series of events that were held all over Europe, in selected locations renowned for their Universities and Research Institutions as well as the importance of their industrial environment in Computer Science and Micro-electronics. In 2009, FDL was organized in the attractive south of France area of Sophia Antipolis. together with the DASIP (Design and Architectures for Signal and Image Processing) Conference and the SAME (Sophia Antipolis MicroElectronics ) Forum. All submitted papers were carefully reviewed to build a program with 27 full and 10 short contributions. From these, the Program Committee selected a shorter list, based on the evaluations of the reviewers, and the originality and relevance of the work that was presented at the Forum. The revised, and sometimes extended versions of these contributions constitute the chapters of this volume. Advances in Design Methods from Modeling Languages for Embedded Systems and SoC’s presents extensions to standard specification and description languages, as well as new language-based design techniques and methodologies to solve the challenges raised by mixed signal and multi-processor systems on a chip. It is intended as a reference for researchers and lecturers, as well as a state of the art milestone for designers and CAD developers.
