This is a comprehensive two-volumes text on plane and space geometry, transformations and conics, using a synthetic approach. The first volume focuses on Euclidean Geometry of the plane, and the second volume on Circle measurement, Transformations, Space geometry, Conics. The book is based on lecture notes from more than 30 courses which have been taught over the last 25 years. Using a synthetic approach, it discusses topics in Euclidean geometry ranging from the elementary (axioms and their first consequences), to the complex (the famous theorems of Pappus, Ptolemy, Euler, Steiner, Fermat, Morley, etc.). Through its coverage of a wealth of general and specialized subjects, it provides a comprehensive account of the theory, with chapters devoted to basic properties of simple planar and spatial shapes, transformations of the plane and space, and conic sections. As a result of repeated exposure of the material to students, it answers many frequently asked questions. Particularattention has been given to the didactic method; the text is accompanied by a plethora of figures (more than 2000) and exercises (more than 1400), most of them with solutions or expanded hints. Each chapter also includes numerous references to alternative approaches and specialized literature. The book is mainly addressed to students in mathematics, physics, engineering, school teachers in these areas, as well as, amateurs and lovers of geometry. Offering a sound and self-sufficient basis for the study of any possible problem in Euclidean geometry, the book can be used to support lectures to the most advanced level, or for self-study.

This work develops highly efficient algorithms for analyzing large images. Applications include object-based change detection and screening. The algorithms are 10-100 times as fast as existing software, sometimes even outperforming FGPA/GPU hardware, because they are designed to suit the computer architecture. This thesis describes the implementation details and the underlying algorithm engineering methodology, so that both may also be applied to other applications.

Tires are highly engineered products which have to be designed to meet several performances such as ride, handling, traction, etc. Tire subjective evaluation is still the key criteria to get an original equipment manufacturers approval. For this subjective evaluation, it is essential to select assemblies with best uniformities in order to avoid vibrations which could disturb the driver during its subjective assessment. New generations of balancing ma- chines provide capabilities to measure geometrical uniformity. The main goal of this thesis is to assess the measurement capabilities of such a laser equipped machine. This machine is going to be used for quick selection of best uniformity assemblies. For this purpose, measurements of this machine are compared to the measurements of another reference ma- chine. A feasibility study is conducted in this report in order to frame a robust comparison method between the two machines. The second goal of the project is the development of several indicators in order to correctly describe the uniformity of assemblies based on laser measurements. These indicators are extracted directly from the tire con- tour which is obtained after a test on the machine. Speci cally, one of the objective is to develop an algorithm in order to evaluate the lateral tread shift.

Nowadays, the resolutions of the Traveling Salesman Problem are extremely numerous and diverse and will likely continue to spread until the famous question "P versus NP" is answered. This thesis was realized in partnership with Usitoo, a Belgian object borrowing platform based in Brussels, and thus proposes a solution in a real case application. The goal of this work is to plan deliveries and retrievals of objects in the event that certain constraints have been relaxed. The most delicate constraint that was removed is the day of the journey, which considerably increases the number of possibilities to evaluate compared to a conventional Traveling Salesman Problem. The cost representing a journey was thought so that this metric best meets the environmental issue that we are trying to address with this thesis. The suggested solution involves both exhaustive search and genetic algorithms in order to respond to the request correctly but also quickly. The final proposed algorithm was implemented in Python. In this way, we hope to respond to the request of Usitoo through a Django website presenting the obtained results. With it, they will likely be able to continue to follow their eco-responsible vocation while remaining efficient.

Relational database management systems, using as foundations a formal language, first-order logic, serve as mediators between individuals and machines. With the increase in the volume of data disseminated on the Web, a "collective intelligence" is currently emerging, shaped by large search engines whose monopoly raises ethical and political questions. One of the main challenges for the coming years is the development of technologies that will make it possible to find, evaluate, validate, verify and rank information, and thus to build tomorrow's "Web of knowledge".

The book contains 15 chapters presenting recent contributions of top researchers working with Simulated Annealing (SA). Although it represents a small sample of the research activity on SA, the book will certainly serve as a valuable tool for researchers interested in getting involved in this multidisciplinary field. In fact, one of the salient features is that the book is highly multidisciplinary in terms of application areas since it assembles experts from the fields of Biology, Telecommunications, Geology, Electronics and Medicine.
