Das Praxishandbuch Open Access bietet eine Einführung in das Open Access Publizieren sowohl aus der Perspektive der Autoren als auch aus der Perspektive der beteiligten Institutionen. Es stellt die Workflows und die wichtigsten Werkzeuge vor und nimmt eine Einordnung verschiedener Geschäftsmodelle vor. Dabei konzentriert es sich auf die Publikation von Texten, bietet aber auch einen Ausblick auf das Data Publishing. Es wendet sich an alle, die den barrierefreien Zugang zu wissenschaftlichen Informationen als ihr Anliegen sehen und die Open Access bereits jetzt praktizieren oder künftig in unterschiedlichen Rollen dazu beitragen wollen.

Nell’affascinante mondo della cultura open, dopo software open source, standard aperti, open access e open content, il fenomeno dei dati aperti rappresenta l’ultima frontiera e forse anche quella attualmente più strategica. Alla fine degli anni 2000 si è infatti aperto il dibattito sull’importanza della disponibilità e libera diffusione di dati “crudi” (anche e soprattutto da parte del settore pubblico) così da poter aumentare il potenziale informativo e comunicativo della conoscenza condivisa figlia della rivoluzione digitale. Ci si è presto accorti che la possibilità di raccogliere, gestire e riutilizzare quantità di dati sempre maggiori e sempre più dense di correlazioni porta la necessità di alcune riflessioni di carattere sia giuridico che tecnologico. In questo libro, in ottica divulgativa, si cerca di presentare le principali questioni emergenti, tracciando un quadro normativo completo e fornendo alcune essenziali linee guida. SIMONE ALIPRANDI ha un dottorato di ricerca in Società dell’Informazione ed è un avvocato che si occupa di consulenza, ricerca e formazione nel campo del diritto d’autore e più in generale del diritto dell’ICT. È responsabile dal 2005 del Progetto Copyleft-Italia.it, è membro di Array (www.array.eu) e collabora costantemente con alcuni enti universitari; ha pubblicato vari articoli e libri sul mondo delle tecnologie open e della cultura libera, rilasciando tutte le sue opere con licenze di tipo copyleft. At a time when the bill "for a digital Republic" proposes the insertion in the Code of research of provisions relating to open access, the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), alongside its partners in the ISTEX project as well as a large number of researchers and actors in the field of public research, offers this White Paper the fruit of its reflections and analyzes. For several years, the scientific community of public research has been advancing the need to create a legal and organizational framework for access to scientific and technical data and information in the digital world, in particular to data resulting from its own research activity. This White Paper reports on these reflections, on the practices of researchers in the use of scientific and technical information and digital tools.

This textbook analyzes a number of texts in “conformal translation,” that is, a translation in which the same Babylonian term is always translated in the same way and, more importantly, in which different terms are always translated differently. Appendixes are provided for readers who are familiar with basic Assyriology but otherwise philological details are avoided. All of these texts are from the second half of the Old Babylonian period, that is, 1800–1600 BCE. It is indeed during this period that the “algebraic” discipline, and Babylonian mathematics in general, culminates. Even though a few texts from the late period show some similarities with what comes from the Old Babylonian period, they are but remnants. Beyond analyzing texts, the book gives a general characterization of the kind of mathematics involved, and locates it within the context of the Old Babylonian scribe school and its particular culture. Finally, it describes the origin of the discipline and its impact in later mathematics, not least Euclid’s geometry and genuine algebra as created in medieval Islam and taken over in European medieval and Renaissance mathematics.
