Abstract

Environmental Change in South-East Asia brings together scholars, journalists, consultants and NGO activists to explore the interaction of people, politics and ecology. Ostensibly "green" activities - plantation forestry, eco-tourism, hydro-electricity - are revealed as guises used by elites to promote their own political and economic interests. Highlighting fatal flaws in presently exclusive economic and ecological approaches, the authors stress that neither the quest for sustainable development nor the process of environmental change itself can be understood without reference to political processes.

Abstract

Abstract

Greencom-04 - a Nordic Conference on Environmental Communication and how to make it work was held in Stockholm March 31- April 1 2004. The conference focused on when environmental communication works and when it does not. Participants investigated how environmental communication can work to influence consumer behaviour and tried to identify the type of support that consumers need to actively contribute to the "greening" of products. The conference objective was sharing ideas and knowledge on developing the role of the consumer within the integrated product policy process (IPP). The conference was organized by the Integrated Product Policy group of the Nordic Council of Ministers (NMRIPP-group). More information about the conference is still to be found at: www.greencom.se . The conference report presents the results of the conference and sheds light on some of the interesting topics that were discussed. There are two sections in the report, the first describes what happened at the conference and the second provides the reader with a picture of the most important findings. A written copy of the report has been sent to all the conference participants, but apart from that it is only available in an electronic format.

Abstract

This book, edited by Floriana Cerniglia and Francesco Saraceno, is the third installment of the European Public Investment Outlook series. It advocates for significant increases in public investment, particularly in green ventures, drawing on analyses from key economists associated with international organizations like the IMF, European Investment Bank, and European Commission. The book highlights the urgent need for green investment to boost economic growth and transition to sustainable energy sources. It discusses the European Union's current levels of green public investment, the challenges in achieving net-zero carbon emissions, and the impact of geopolitical events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It also evaluates public investment trends in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, and policies like REPowerEU. The book is aimed at economists, policymakers, and readers interested in understanding the economic and fiscal implications of green policies and the necessity of changing current energy approaches.

Abstract

To address the increasingly prominent environmental pollution and energy shortage, many countries devote themselves to green manufacturing and logistics in which some optimization problems are common and challenging, e.g., production planning and scheduling, supply chain management, location and allocation problems, vehicle routing problem, resource optimization, and pricing strategies. The present reprint contains all of the articles accepted and published in the Special Issue "Mathematical Modeling and Intelligent Optimization in Green Manufacturing & Logistics" from the MDPI Mathematics journal. This Special Issue is focused on collecting recent mathematical modeling and intelligent optimization research in green manufacturing and logistics, including operations research, game theory, (meta)heuristics, machine learning, knowledge-driven, digital twin, and so on. We hope that the scientific results presented in this reprint will serve as a valuable source of documentation and inspiration to those researching the modeling and optimization of green manufacturing and sustainable logistics.
