This book, Organic Fertilizers - From Basic Concepts to Applied Outcomes, is intended to provide an overview of emerging researchable issues related to the use of organic fertilizers that highlight recent research activities in applied organic fertilizers toward a sustainable agriculture and environment. We aimed to compile information from a diversity of sources into a single volume to give some real examples extending the concepts in organic fertilizers that may stimulate new research ideas and trends in the relevant fields.

First published in 1993, "La mesure des arbres et des peuplements forestiers" was revised in 1999. The present version is both an overhaul and an important update, taking into account the evolution of techniques for collecting and using measurements taken in forests and the growing need to understand new parameters, other than woody matter alone, with a view to improving the understanding of the forest ecosystem and the management of wooded areas. The book, one of the few in French, is designed as a reference manual on dendrometry, particularly for students who are so often conditioned to consult the Internet and use "ready-to-use" software. It is also intended for teachers, researchers and forest managers. It is deliberately built on the basis of a framework approaching the main subjects treated in a progressive manner, without sacrificing certain approaches that could be considered as belonging to the past but that could prove to be very useful for a better understanding of dendrometry and for sharing it with as many people as possible. The time is long gone when this forestry science was limited to "measuring trees" with the precise aim of knowing their volume. The sustainability of natural forest management in Central Africa depends on a thorough understanding of the population dynamics of commercial tree populations. These dynamics are studied in systems designed to be monitored over the long term, known as plots and trails. While the methodological approach for setting up and monitoring plots is fairly well documented, the approach for trails is less well documented. This book fills this gap by capitalizing on the experience accumulated over more than 20 years by the members of the DYNAFAC collective, a group created on the initiative of ATIBT, CIRAD, Nature+ and Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech. It is a practical and illustrated guide explaining the process necessary for the installation and monitoring of these trails. In addition to the technical procedures, the guide also assesses the costs, taking into account the economic specificities of different countries in the sub-region. By addressing all stakeholders in the development and management of Africa's forests, the book aims to promote the implementation of robust and efficient systems within everyone's reach. / La durabilité de l'aménagement des forêts naturelles d'Afrique centrale est tributaire d'une connaissance approfondie de la dynamique démographique des populations d'arbres commerciaux. Cette dynamique est étudiée dans des dispositifs destinés à être suivis sur le long terme, dénommés parcelles et sentiers. Si la démarche méthodologique d'installation et de suivi des parcelles est assez bien documentée, celle des sentiers l'est moins. New Advances and Contributions to Forestry Research consists of 14 chapters divided into three sections and is authored by 48 researchers from 16 countries and all five continents. The common idea for many people is that forests are just a collection of trees. However, they are much more than that. They are a complex, functional system of interacting and often interdependent biological, physical, and chemical components, the biological part of which has evolved to perpetuate itself. This complexity produces combinations of climate, soils, trees and plant species unique to each site, resulting in hundreds of different forest types around the world. Logically, trees are an important component for the research in forest ecosystems, but the wide variety of other life forms and abiotic components in most forests means that other elements, such as wildlife or soil nutrients, should also be the focal point in ecological studies and management plans to be carried out in forest ecosystems. In this book, the readers can find the latest research related to forest ecosystems but with a different twist. The research described here is not just on trees and is focused on the other components, structures and functions that are usually overshadowed by the focus on trees, but are equally important to maintain the diversity, function and services provided by forests.
