This textbook covers in detail the problem of improving the reliability and service life of high-voltage equipment in electric power systems, mainly through testing, monitoring, and diagnostics, which support the timely repair or replacement of equipment. The main focus is on high-voltage power and instrument transformers, switching devices, powerful rotating electric machines, capacitors, bushings, and power cables. The design, purpose, and principle of operation for each respective type of equipment, as well as adverse factors that can lead to defects (primarily in insulation) – and, as a result, to accelerated aging (wear) and failure – are considered. In turn, the scientific and technological foundations and practical application of testing, monitoring, and diagnostics to determine the technical condition of equipment are described. Considerable attention is paid to new and promising methods for testing under voltage (without interrupting operation) – such as pulsed flaw detection and dielectric spectroscopy. In addition, the authors propose a number of helpful physical concepts and technical solutions. The book stands out in terms of the breadth and depth of the consideration of the problem, which reflects recent trends and concepts for the development of the electric power industry, and its convincing demonstration of the capabilities of traditional and advanced methods in relation to the main equipment used in electric power systems. The textbook is intended for undergraduate and graduate students in the field of high-voltage technologies for electric power systems. It also benefits engineering personnel working with electric power systems and in the electrical industry.

Electricity Information provides a comprehensive review of historical and current market trends in the OECD electricity sector, including 2015 provisional data. It provides an overview of the world electricity developments in 2014 covering world electricity and heat production, input fuel mix, supply and consumption, and electricity imports and exports. More detai l is provided for the 34 OECD countries wi th information covering production, instal led capacity, input energy mix to electricity and heat production, consumption, electricity trades, input fuel prices and end-user elect rici ty prices. I t provides comprehensive stat ist ical detai ls on overall energy consumption, economic indicators, electricity and heat production by energy form and plant type, electricity imports and exports, sectoral energy and electricity consumption, as well as prices for electricity and electricity input fuels for each country and regional aggregate. Electricity Information is one of a series of annual IEA stat ist ical publ ications on major energy sources; other reports are Coal Information, Natural Gas Information, Oi l Information and Renewables Information.

As the greatest coal-producing and consuming nation in the world, China would seem an unlikely haven for wind power. Yet the country now boasts a world-class industry that promises to make low-carbon technology more affordable and available to all. Conducting an empirical study of China's remarkable transition and the possibility of replicating their model elsewhere, Joanna I. Lewis adds greater depth to a theoretical understanding of China's technological innovation systems and its current and future role in a globalized economy. Lewis focuses on China's specific methods of international technology transfer, its forms of international cooperation and competition, and its implementation of effective policies promoting the development of a home-grown industry. Just a decade ago, China maintained only a handful of operating wind turbines-all imported from Europe and the United States. Today, the country is the largest wind power market in the world, with turbines made almost exclusively in its own factories. Following this shift reveals how China's political leaders have responded to domestic energy challenges and how they may confront encroaching climate change. The nation's escalation of its wind power use also demonstrates China's ability to leapfrog to cleaner energy technologies-an option equally viable for other developing countries hoping to bypass gradual industrialization and the "technological lock-in" of hydrocarbon-intensive energy infrastructure. Though setbacks are possible, China could one day come to dominate global wind turbine sales, becoming a hub of technological innovation and a major instigator of low-carbon economic change.

Over the coming decades, the supply of electric power will need to expand to meet the growing demand for electricity, but how the production and use of electricity develops will have broad ramifications for the diverse economies and societies of Latin America and the Caribbean. This report discusses the critical issues for the power sector considering a baseline scenario to 2030 for countries and sub-regions. Among these critical issues are the demand for electricity, the total new supply of electric generating capacity needed, the technology and fuel mix of the generating capacity, and the CO
