Die Bundesbank spielte bei der Reintegration in die Weltwirtschaft und beim wirtschaftlichen Aufbau in der Bundesrepublik eine oftmals bedeutendere Rolle als Ludwig Erhard, der vielzitierte "Vater" des Wirtschaftswunders. Das ist die zentrale These dieser, auf umfangreichem Quellenmaterial aus dem Archiv der Bundesbank gestützten Untersuchung von Monika Dickhaus. Ihre Analyse der internationalen Währungspolitik der Zentralbank zwischen 1948 und 1958 veranschaulicht zugleich die Machtverhältnisse und internen Auseinandersetzungen innerhalb der Bank sowie ihre Zusammenarbeit mit den politischen Entscheidungsträgern. Dabei zeigt sich, daß die Zentralbank, indem sie die europäische Währungskooperation befürwortete, die Rückkehr Deutschlands auf den europäischen Markt ermöglichte und die Grundlagen ihrer späteren Führungsrolle in Europa legte. Die Autorin: Monika Dickhaus ist Assistentin für Wirtschaftsgeschichte an der Universität Bielefeld.
