Abstract

The regulation of eukaryotic gene expression is a fundamental and highly active area of current research. This work brings together leading workers in the field for the first time to review the latest findings on all major aspects of transcription and processing, and their regulation. Knowledge of these events is increasing rapidly, with great significance for all those working in molecular biology, making this volume a timely source of invaluable information.

Abstract

The preparation of gene probes is a core application in molecular biology, creating essential tools for genetic research. A companion volume, Gene Probes 2, covers applications of the probes. The two books are timely additions to the series, as this is a progressive field which continues to grow in importance.

Abstract

PCR is now one of the most widely used of basic molecular biology techniques and is an indispensable research tool for the molecular biologist. The basic PCR technique provides the cornerstone for in vitro DNA amplification, upon which further features can be built to expand the range of PCR-based applications. PCR: A Practical Approach Volume 2 is not a revised version of PCR:A Practical Approach, but sets out to address some of the new and exciting applications of PCR including direct sequencing, mRNA quantitation and expression, genomic DNA mapping, and mutation analysis.

Abstract

This volume provides detailed laboratory protocols, advice, hints and tips, example data, key literature citations, background information, and troubleshooting comments for the steps used in most molecular biology laboratories for example transformation, construction of cDNA and genomic libraries, probe preparation, analysis of gene organization and expression, in vitro mutagenesis, and DNA sequencing. The information provided is an completely up-to-date account of each topic by established researchers. These two books, the first of four volumes are thoroughly revised and up-dated versions of the original ones published in the Practical Approach series. Together they will offer a complete guide to the major techniques required by modern molecular biology laboratories.
