The use of wheel-individual drives on the steered axle simultaneously enables propulsion and implementation of steering assistance. This work presents a closed-loop and open-loop method for controlling wheel-selective drives with the aim of reducing the steering wheel torque. The proposed optimal linear-quadratic-integral controller achieves a high control quality while ensuring driving safety and reducing energy consumption.

The consideration of discrete motor primitives in models of human motor control is essential for the realistic prediction of voluntary movements. In this book a formal movement model is derived from neurobiological findings as well as new identification and learning methods are presented for the secured determination of the model parameters. Both the model and the identification methods are demonstrated using the example of predicting human driver steering movements.

The emergence of electric drives opens up new opportunities in vehicle design. For example, powerful in-wheel motors pro -vide unprecedented flexibility in chassis design and are suitable for distributed drive solutions, although implying non-trivial vehicle dynamics control problems. This work aims at a new differential steering concept relying only on passive steering linkages where the necessary steering moment about the kingpins is generated by traction force differences produced by in-wheel motors. For the analysis of the proposed steering concept, a tailored multi-body system model is introduced along with the associated steering control system. In addition, this work explores the general applicability of such a new steering concept by using multi-objective optimisation. For this purpose, various design objectives and constraints are defined with respect to the dynamic, steady-state and low-speed steering performance of the vehicle. The resulting behaviour of the proposed steering concept is investigated by various simulation experiments demonstrating a comparable steering performance to that of conventional passenger cars.

Prestatiesturing is een begrip binnen de publieke sector, maar de vertaalslag van dit private managementinstrument is niet altijd zonder problemen. De context van de publieke sector maakt dat dit instrument aangepast moet worden aan de specifieke context. De lokale politie, als onderdeel van de publieke sector, maakt tevens gebruik van prestatiesturing. De vraag is evenwel hoe dit in de dagelijkse politiepraktijk vorm krijgt. Deze vraag tracht de mastproef te beantwoorden door het ondernemen van drie case studies bij middelgrote korpsen. Het antwoord blijkt moeilijk te geven. De vertaalslag is een feit, maar de praktijk toont dat dit niet zonder problemen is. Naast dit empirische luik zoomt het theoretische luik eerst in op het proces van prestatiesturing. In tweede orde wordt het proces van prestatiesturing geplaatst binnen de context van de publieke sector, om het zo te kunnen plaatsen binnen de context van de lokale politie.

In this thesis a hydrostatic steer-by-wire valve with independent metering edges is analysed regarding its usability in safety critical applications. Doing experimental investigations it is shown, that valve faults can be compensated by the system in order to guarantee the steerability. Because of the chosen valve concept and the fact that valve faults can be detected without position sensors at each valve, the system complexity of the chosen solution is low.
