"The WJP Rule of Law Index 2019 presents a portrait of the rule of law in 126 countries by providing scores and rankings based on eight factors: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, and criminal justice. The country scores and rankings for the WJP Rule of Law Index 2019 are derived from more than 120,000 household surveys and 3,800 expert surveys in 126 countries and jurisdictions. The Index is the world's most comprehensive data set of its kind and the only to rely principally on primary data, measuring countries' adherence to the rule of law from the perspective of ordinary people and their experiences. The indes is intended for a broad audience that includes policy makers, civil society organizations, academics, citizens, and legal professionals, among others. It is our hope that this diagnostic tool will help identify countries' strengths and weaknesses and encourage policy choices that strengthen the rule of law within and acros countries."--Executive summary, page 5.

This book, 'Comments on a Notorious Verdict: The Trial of Lula,' critically examines the judicial processes and verdicts involved in the conviction of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazil's former president. It presents a collection of articles by Brazilian and foreign legal experts who scrutinize the legal proceedings of the 'Guarujá triplex' case at the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba. The book highlights concerns about the influence of political motives on judicial decisions and the implications for the rule of law, democracy, and individual liberties in Brazil. It serves as a comprehensive critique of the legal and procedural aspects of Lula's trial, emphasizing the need for transparency and adherence to the due process of law. The intended audience includes legal scholars, practitioners, and individuals interested in Brazilian politics and law.

"The Long Arc of Legality breaks the current deadlock in philosophy of law between legal positivism and natural law by showing that any understanding of law as a matter of authority must account for the interaction of enacted law with fundamental principles of legality. This interaction conditions law's content so that officials have the moral resources to answer the legal subject's question 'But, how can that be law for me?' David Dyzenhaus brings Thomas Hobbes and Hans Kelsen into a dialogue with HLA Hart, showing that philosophy of law must work with the idea of legitimate authority and its basis in the social contract. He argues that the legality of international law and constitutional law are integral to the main tasks of philosophy of law, and that legal theory must attend both to the politics of legal space and to the way in which law provides us with a 'public conscience'"--
