Adoptée en 1996 par l'Organisation internationale de normalisation, la norme ISO 14001 marque le début d'une reconnaissance internationale de la gestion environnementale. À partir des années 2000, on peut dire que le principal défi ne concerne plus la reconnaissance de la problématique environnementale ni l'engagement formel des entreprises, mais bien l'amélioration sensible de leur performance en cette matière. Ce manuel s'adresse à tous ceux qu'intéresse la gestion environnementale, qu'ils soient dirigeants d'entreprises industrielles, forestières ou agricoles ou encore, étudiants en gestion environnementale, en ingénierie ou en droit. Premier ouvrage de référence en langue française, il est adapté au contexte québécois, mais il tient également compte de l'évolution en Amérique du Nord et en Europe. L'ouvrage est divisé en trois grandes parties. La première vise à initier le lecteur à la problématique environnementale et aux défis qu'elle représente pour l'entreprise contemporaine. La deuxième partie constitue en quelque sorte le cœur de l'ouvrage puisqu'on y présente les grands principes de gestion environnementale en les illustrant systématiquement par des cas concrets. Finalement, la troisième partie est consacrée aux outils de la gestion environnementale : la vérification, la communication et la gestion du risque. Le livre tient compte des grands principes de structure, de juridiction et d'implantation concrète de la norme ISO 14001 en se référant à des initiatives de niveau national et international.

This book is a comprehensive reference on ISO management system standards and their implementation. The impacts that ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 have had on business performance are analyzed in depth, and up-to-date perspectives are offered on the integration of these and other management standards (e.g. SA8000, ISO/TS 16949).
