The Hamburger Kunsthalle is showing the most extensive retrospective to date of the work of Belgian artist Philippe Vandenberg (1952-2009), comprising some 80 paintings and over 120 drawings and prints. This is the first show devoted to Vandenberg in Germany, inviting visitors to discover an important artist who may be unfamiliar to them. Highly acclaimed in his home country of Belgium, Vandenberg produced a radical and unsparing œuvre that is just now achieving greater international prominence. The title of the exhibition, Kamikaze, describes the artist's drastic working methods and results, a basic precept of which is that creativity is only possible through the deliberate destruction of what has gone before. Going beyond any single artistic "style", Vandenberg created complex images of our times which resonate with both contemporary pertinence and existential significance. The majority of the works on loan came from the artist's estate and are now being presented to the public for the first time. Exhibition: Hamburger Kunsthalle, Germany (16.11.2018 - 24.02.2019).

Philippe Vandenberg: Visite is the catalog to the exhibition of the same name which took place in the Museum of Fine Arts of Ghent, Ghent in 2008. It was in the Museum of Fine Arts of Ghent that the young Vandenberg was for the first time immersed in art history. During Visite his own oeuvre stood in dialogue with the works of the Old Masters. The catalog offers a thorough documentation of the creation of the exhibition and its presentation within the context of the museum, illustrated with photographs of the artist in his studio and reproductions of his oeuvre in juxtaposition with works by, among others, Théodore Géricault, Hieronymus Bosch and Gustave Permeke. Visite is edited by Anja De Lannoy, with forewords by Robert Hoozee (Museum of Fine Arts, Ghent) and Jan van Woensel and Niels Van Tomme (De Appel Arts Centre, Amsterdam), and contains a transcriptions of a conversation between Bernard Dewulf and Philippe Vandenberg.

Philippe Vandenberg: Crossing The Circle is the catalogue to the exhibition of the same name held in The Drawing Room, London, 2016. The catalog includes a selection of drawings spanning the years 1990-2009. The works on display presented radical stylistic and thematic shifts in the oeuvre of Vandenberg, including highly personal images about life, sex, death, good and evil, as well as visualized responses to the political and social upheavals the artist perceived to be happening around him. With a foreword by Mary Doyle (Drawing Room, London) and an essay by Dr. Jo Applin (Courtauld Institute of Art, London).

Absence, etc. is the first monograph on Philippe Vandenberg since his death in 2009. The book is richly illustrated and invites the reader to consider the artist’s oeuvre as a whole. Throughout the book Vandenberg’s trajectory can be followed, as he regularly shifted directions, taking stylistic and formal detours, experimenting with figurative expression, lyrical abstraction, graffiti-like and comics-informed figuration, to finally resort to monochromes and word- and text-based paintings. Edited by Prof. Dr. Wouter Davidts (Ghent University). With texts by Davidts and Dr. David Anfam (Clyfford-Still-Museum, Denver), an interview between Dr. Ronny Delrue and Philippe Vandenberg, and the transcription of a seminar between Dr. Jo Applin (Courtauld Institute of Art, London), Prof. Dr. Anna Dezeuze (École Supérieure d’Art et de Design Marseille-Méditerranée), Prof. Dr. Maarten Liefooghe (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Brussels), Dr. Raphäel Pirenne (erg, La Cambre, Brussels), Dr. Merel van Tilburg (University of Geneva) and Prof. Dr. John C. Live or Die: Philippe Vandenberg - Bruce Nauman is the catalogue to the exhibition of the same name held in Gallery Sofie Van De Velde, Antwerp, in 2017. The catalog includes a selection of works by Philippe Vandenberg and American artist Bruce Nauman. At first, it may seem startling to see Nauman's small but dense selection of works alongside those by Vandenberg. And yet there's something that links the oeuvre of these apparently divergent artists. With essays by Prof. Dr. Anna Dezeuze (École Supérieure d'Art et de Design Marseille-Méditerranée), Dr. Brigitte Kölle (Hamburger Kunsthalle), and Prof. Dr. John C. Welchman (University of California, San Diego).
