The Libyan episode (4. 1223-1781) is one of the key passages in Apollonius Rhodius's Argonautica and has thus far been only insufficiently dealt with in scholarship. This thorough philological commentary aims to close this glaring gap. In addition, the introduction reveals the central significance of the Libyan episode and the image of North Africa for the overall composition of the text and reassesses its narrative technique.
